There just was an update to a new Tasker version 5.12.18 and now all my Tasks that monitor the clipboard (via Variable set %CLIP) do not work anymore.
I tried to give Tasker all permissions again that I could find, including the WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS via ADB, but the Task still does not get triggered.
How do I restore the clipboard access that worked in the previous version?

Update: I now manually downgraded to a previous version 5.11.14 and there clipboard access works without problems

Thank you for your response.
I tried upgrading to the current version. I was using just the most simple profile with only Variable set %CLIP and then Flash a message. Also I gave Tasker all permissions I could find, including the ADB permissions which seem to be the most relevant here. But I was not able to get it to work.
Now I downgraded again, gave it the ADB permission and it immediately started to work.
Is there any other setting I should try?

use instead the "set clipboard" option. this works.

My problem is not setting the clipboard, but reacting when the content of the clipboard is set by other applications.
So I have a Profile that listens to the "Variable Set" Event with the variable "%CLIP" and then executes a Task (like simply flashing a message).
This used to work, but in the new version the event is no longer triggered.

ok, now I know what you mean. I have tired it with a variable %Test, this works. With %CLIP it does not work.
Maybe Joao could investigate.

Hi again. I just tried it and it still works for me.

What Android version are you using and what device are you using?Ā Can you please export your profile's description (not xml) so I can take a look? Long-click the profile in Tasker->export description

Also,Ā can you please use the Report Issue To Developer option and send me a report showing that happening? Start the report, change the clipboard value and then stop the report. Thanks in advance

A little side note: The "Report Issue To Developer" function always fails the first time with the error message "Couldn't find log file!". Seems like another little bug.

Yeah, sorry about that. Unfortunately I had to revert that change becauseĀ it was breaking stuff for other people :( Seems like I'll maybe have to add this as an option so it works for everyone...

After over a year of carefully avoiding any tasker update I gave the current version another try, but I could not get it to work. I also tried the new "Clipboard Changed" event, but nothing would trigger a clip event in tasker.
The log looks different but I guess it is still the same error.

Did you give Tasker the permission to read Logs on your device? Unfortunately that is needed now to read the clipboard...

Ok, so here is my full test workflow:

Preparation:
  • Backup my tasks
  • Delete Tasker app
  • Restart phone

In the following I will use Tasker with only one simple testing profile:
  • File test.xml attached
  • Basically it is one profile with "Variable Set %CLIP" and a task that then flashes a message


Test current app:
  • Install latest version of Tasker from Google Play Store (Version 6.0.10)
  • Open app
  • Accept terms
  • Enable "Draw over other apps"
  • Disable battery optimization
  • Disable vendor specific battery optimization in [Settings]->[Akku]->[App-Start]->[Tasker]->[all manuel]
  • Disable helper notifications
  • Import test profile
  • Connect phone to PC with USB-Debugging
  • Run the following commands:
    adb shell pm grant net.dinglisch.android.taskerm android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS
    adb shell pm grant net.dinglisch.android.taskerm android.permission.READ_LOGS
    adb -d shell am force-stop net.dinglisch.android.taskerm
  • Go to memo app
  • Copy some text
=> Nothing happens


Test version 5.12.22
  • Delete Tasker app
  • Install Tasker.5.12.22.apk
  • Open app
  • Accept disclaimer
  • Import test profile
  • Enable "Draw over other apps"
  • Disable battery optimization
  • Disable vendor specific battery optimization in [Settings]->[Akku]->[App-Start]->[Tasker]->[all manuel]
  • Connect phone to PC with USB-Debugging
  • Run the following commands:
    adb shell pm grant net.dinglisch.android.taskerm android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS
    adb shell pm grant net.dinglisch.android.taskerm android.permission.READ_LOGS
