I'm new on this group and have recently bought tasker, and I was
wondering how to do some conditions.
Because I've set tasker up to so that my phone (Samsung Galaxy S) is
silent at night from 23.00 until 09.00.
However, I want certain calls (like calls from my parents or brother),
to vibrate.

Can someone help me out?

p.s. Pardon me for my English!

Profile name: VIP CALL
Context: Incoming Call, select caller you wish to grant the privilege to by pressing the magnifying glass.
Task: Silent Mode, set mode to off.

This will do the job.

Check the app Dindy, it allows for selective "pass-thru" of important VIP calls will silencing others and also allows for "repetitive call" pass-through, it has very good Tasker integration.

Dindy may do this well also, but the request was for advice on taskers ability.  It is easily accomplished, just reference my earlier post.  Let me know if u need help.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I tried your solution, but when they call me the phone will go out of
silent mode, but wouldn't ring. (I thinks that call still has to be
silent or something).

Kind Regards,

I had that problem too.  Make a task called silent mode.  Then throw a shortcut to it on your homescreen.  Use that shortcut to out the phone in silent mode and try it again.  That should work.  For some reason, I had to do that for tasker to realize my phone was in silent mode.

Darn your quick, I tried it, but it won't change anything, it still
goes out of silent mode but it won't ring while the caller is still
calling.

Are u using the "phone ringing" state or the "incoming call" state?

I'm using the phone ringing state.

That's the problem.  Use the incoming call state.  Using this state will also put the phone back in silent mode after you hang up.

Now i've set it up with the incoming call state, but it is still using
the initial mode (silent mode), however it is changing the mode but
not correctly, I want the modes changes so that the caller can wake me
out of my sleep.

I really appreciate, the way you are helping me!

This is what I have to accomplish the exact same think you are trying to do. It works on my HTC EVO.

Show details Profile name: VIP CALL

Context: Incoming Call, select caller you wish to grant the privilege to by pressing the magnifying glass.

Task: Silent Mode, set mode to silent

If it doesn't work, maybe someone else can give it a shot.  It works perfect on my phone.   Good luck.

Neivra, I am hoping that u got it working.  If not, delete what u have and start over.   Don't try and put any extra options in just yet.  It is a lot harder to troubleshoot with multiple variables.

Just woke up again, I still haven't got it to work. Whatever I try I
got the same thing over and over, and that is the initial mode (silent
mode) is kept for the person who is calling at that moment, only for
the call afterwards it on the other mode.
Maybe my Samsung Galaxy S is at fault?

What I now have in the Context Menu: Incoming call > with a number
selected
and as task I've got: Silent mode > Off.

For what it's worth, I was never able to create a VIP caller using
tasker, and ended up buying WhoIsIt, which is an awesome app that
allows you to do just that. Give it a try. Worth every penny.

I'm giving up:(
Now going to try Dindy like Apostolov said, if that doesn't work out I
will try WhoIsIt.

I will report my findings here, for the people who are interested.

Sorry to hear that. I'm sure Tasker's abilities in this area will
improve in the future but apps targetting it specifically will always
have the advantage.

Well actually I'm trying to use Tasker only now to control Dindy,
however I'm not sure on how to start dindy with a profile already
running, and how I can stop that profile from running afterwards.

The solution offered by matthew certainly does work and it's the only
way I could get this functionality on my Droid Incredible. Thanks
again matthew for the tip!
