Drawing on his own experiences in Tonga, Hawaii, and the United States, as well as the experiences of the students, participants will engage in reflection and discourse around knowing and experiencing Christ "beyond the page." Questions exploring the identity of Christ through the arts within a variety of cultural contexts will be central to the seminar discussion.

About the Instructor
Rev. Dr. Tevita Mohenoa Puloka is an ordained minister in the Free Wesleyan Church of Tonga, whose study spans the disciplines of philosophy, economics, ethics, theology and the sacred arts. As a church leader, he has spoken out against what he calls "Empire building by the Church," and he is a tireless advocate for contextualizing faith and theology. A self-described "Pastor-Scholar-Poet-Theologian-Choreographer-Performance Artist," Dr. Puloka is a graduate of Hawaii Loa College and the Claremont School of Theology. Currently the Director of the Christian Education Department of the Free Wesleyan Church, he has lectured at Boston University School of Theology, the School of Theology at Claremont, and the Pacific School of Religion.
 
Course Description 
Drawing on his own experiences in Tonga, Hawaii, and the United States, as well as the experiences of the students, participants will engage in reflection and discourse around knowing and experiencing Christ "beyond the page."  Questions exploring the identity of Christ through the arts within a variety of cultural contexts will be central to the seminar discussion.
