so i haven't booted up minecraft for a while but i decided to today and when clicking which account to log in with it threw me the error of "something went wrong in the log in process" i have tried looking around for ways to solve this problem. i first uninstalled and reinstalled the launcher, then i looked at my host files and saw nothing wrong there, i looked and i don't think i have any conflicting softwares.

Any help for where to go from here would be appreciated. i honestly have no idea how i can access my minecraft when it was working fine a few months ago. I have played many versions on this minecraft with the most recent i remember downloading being 1.16.5 and the oldest i've played being 1.8.9

My minecraft uses intergrated graphics, so I can't play the game. Minecraft is missing in NVIDIA control panel. The only way to make the game run with normal GPU is windows options. But for that I need to find javaw.exe that minecraft uses. And, as you probably guessed, I'm troubling to find the location of that thing. Is javaw.exe location that NEW minecraft launcher uses known and accessible?

I don't know how to create a shortcut to java (not the launcher) can you do that? I'm on windows 11 by the way and no I have not done anything to the file or renamed it and yes I have tried searching on google to see if there is a way but I can't find any

well I'm trying to connect a controller and I know there are ways to do so but I just can't do it that's why I asked this because all the methods involve big picture mode on steam and adding the controller to the game but I can't get it to work or connect the launcher

After finally getting the game to open and download the laucher however crashed and showed Exit Code: 2 and the Java Virtual Machine Launcher showed Error: could not find java.dll and Error: Could not find Java SE Runtime Environment. Many tutorials later, java 18 and 20 and jarfix downloads and countless restarts i cant seem to fix it. I even manually installed and tried to set up java.dll but the system couldnt even find the paths to em evem when they were right there.

I tried to play Minecraft today and when I opened the launcher I was signed out. So I clicked on my account and it said "Something went wrong in the login process". I searched up ways to fix this after restarting my computer and wasn't able to find anything helpful. The only things that appeared when I looked for a solution were solutions for windows computers, or unresolved reddit posts. Hopefully this post will be resolved.

EDIT: Don't place the script in the /.minecraft/launcher/launch.sh directory. Whenever the launcher updates, it'll be removed. Placing it outside the directory, over in /.minecraft/launch.sh works fine.

After spending 2 hours on the problem, for everyone using pop os, you can right click the app in the "show applications" window and there is an option to run the launcher with "discrete graphics card", fixing the isue for me

This also worked for me. Just as a heads up, this was caused due to the fact I did not have a locale setup. I followed the steps on the Arch wiki page for Locale and I can now use minecraft-launcher normally, without prepending LC_ALL=C.

MultiMC is an alternative launcher for Minecraft. It allows you to have multiple, cleanly separated instances of Minecraft (each with their own mods, resource packs, saves, etc) and helps you manage them and their associated options with a simple and powerful interface.

MultiMC is based on the code hosted on GitHub. The source is only provided for the purpose of collaboration. The changes in the binary distribution compared to code are the inclusion of branding and API keys required for the launcher to function, along with packaging-related adjustments.

Do notice that the Minecraft launcher is different from the actual minecraft game. The Minecraft launcher has been detected by the graphics card and I believe it's powering it but the actual game is powered by the integrated graphics card. The Minecraft game is a java environment which when I added it to the Radeon Settings showed me that it was another game called Jedi Academy or something along those lines. Even when Minecraft is running, the graphics card it uses is still the integrated one after adding the Javaw.exe environment to the Radeon settings.

Does anyone have any suggestions or fixes of their own? Thanks in advance.

Minecraft > Install > runtime > jre-x64 > bin > javaw.exe

Click on javaw.exe and you'll add it to your switchable graphics section. That's all! Just make sure it's on high performance and you're set.

Adding on to what you said. I had set java.exe. javaw.exe. Minecraft.exe. And a whole bunch of things to high performance in the graphics settings. It wasn't using my dedicated gpu still. If this helps anyone. I remembered doing research on this in the past and I checked my power options and set my power plan to high performance (Actually ultimate performance). Thus switching from those settings that focus on power saving and probably overwrite the command to use the dedicated gpu in my case.

I have an updated Radeon Software, and I added the javaw.exe, but it still uses the integrated GPU instead of my AMD GPU, while I try to add another app, it uses the AMD GPU, like for example, I add and opened up Minecraft, and it's using the Intel UHD Graphics GPU, while I add and open Roblox it's using the AMD GPU, which is weird, but I already updated the OpenGL and stuff, but it still doesn't work! I tried via the Settings app, it also doesn't work, help me pls

As stated previously using windows built-in Graphics settings you can force the applications to use the graphics card. The main applications that you are looking for are java.exe and javaw.exe.
You can find these files in a number of places:

For modded using the lastest Curse Forge launcher by Overwolf:
C:\Users\*ProfileName*\Twitch\MinecraftInstall\runtime\bin
C:\Users\*ProfileName*\Twitch\MinecraftInstall\runtime\jre-x64\bin
C:\Users\*ProfileName*\Twitch\MinecraftInstall\runtime\jre-legacy\windows-x64\jre-legacy\bin
(jre-legacy is probably the one you are looking for as they said they would continue to use the legacy launcher)

The latest (recently updated) Minecraft Launcher from Mojang:
C:\Users\*ProfileName*\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.4297127D64EC6_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Local\runtime\jre-legacy\windows-x64\jre-legacy\bin

Feel free to add any other locations there might be as the install locations have changed from launcher to launcher
The legacy win32 launcher and I believe one older version exists. To find out where these files are just launch the game, open task manager and right-click the Java(TM) Platform SE binary program, and click the open file location to find out where it is running from.

You want to set those to the High-Performance setting.
-As of writing this may be optional.

In order for these files to be configured using Radeon, you have to go into your Radeon application and add the javaw.exe and maybe the java.exe files to your game, in the Gaming tab. To add a game go to the said tab and look for three dots on the right, click them. and press "Add A Game..."

You can then configure the game however you wish, with the exception of the "Anisotropic Filtering" setting, which you want to disable, This setting was causing white borders around blocks, which has to do with the texture filtering.

Also, the Anti-Aliasing setting needs to be set to "Use application settings."
And just finding one version of the file seems to set correctly for all other locations, so only one is needed in Radeon and only the javaw.exe file is needed.

The in game settings are not going to enable/disable gpu usage. From what I can tell it could only be a driver issue, I would make sure other games use the gpu. I would also make sure you have a currently supported gpu. I do not really see why the gpu would not be recognized and use for minecraft by windows if you followed the above steps. Therefore, it would have to be either the gpu itself or the game. Minecraft java can be a bit finicky to work with due to its age too.

My firewall has blocked Minecraft, so I can't seem to play in multiplayer. So, I went to go add Minecraft as an allowed app for the firewall. Since I have java edition, other tutorials have been saying to allow 'javaw.exe'. However, this file isn't showing up in when I look through the list of apps/features I can allow through firewall. Apparently the default location of this file is supposed to be C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_31\bin\javaw.exe but I looked in both program files folders and can't seem to even find a folder named 'Java'

Also, the rest of minecraft (like minecraft launcher and stuff) is installed in a different folder than the default, but I looked in that folder and in the minecraft folder and didn't seem to find anything either...

For 1.6.1, there's a new launcher. Unfortunately, I find myself sitting at the launcher for just long enough to get rather annoyed before I'm allowed to click the 'play' button. I usually launch the launcher from Steam; is there some way to point directly to the version I want to play and only use the launcher when I'm doing something odd?

First, you'll need to launch from the launcher. Assuming Minecraft launches ok, you'll get a load of output in the Development Console. What you need to look for is a line that looks a bit like this (yes, it's very long!):

I also wanted to run Minecraft through the Steam launcher and specifically needed to skip the Minecraft launcher so that Steam can properly stream Minecraft to a Steam Link. However, Steam's "Add a non-Steam game" feature only allows you to select executables with an .exe extension.

Because the way that the game is launched can change across Minecraft versions and platform, the most reliable way to find out how you can run the game without the launcher is to find out how the launcher itself runs the game.
