IDJC: For the Linux fans, my preferred method of broadcasting sets into sl.. comes native in most distros, ubuntu/debian is a simple "sudo apt-get install idjc" Runs on Jack audio, plays most music formats. (linux only)

Mixxx: An open source project broadcaster available for Windows, Mac, Linux. You need to install Lame encoder to be able to broadcast mp3 to SHOUTcast. Abit too bloatware for my slow pc, plays most formats. (windows, linux, mac)

RadioDJ: This automation broadcaster is aimed at the Radio DJ/Station. An excellent alternative for other paid radio station software that cost thousands of dollars. Lots of addons and site scripts. (windows)

So I was always curious about the DJ scene. I hear a lot of people use spotify to stream their music, how exactly does that work? Do you set these programs to listen to system sound so whatever you play is then streamed? Or is there a setup..? A huge library you can use? Having everything downloaded to my PC would just take so much time to find and download

My girlfriend came to me with a most disturbing question the other day. She asked me if i would install windows for her so she could run a program to broadcast to a shout cast radio station over the internets.

Apparently the popular non-linux options are: sam broadcaster for windows, and nicecast for OS-X. I've already tried and the windows program doesnt work properly with wine. So far my best easy to use solution is using winamp inside of wine... but this only allows her to stream a playlist, it doesnt offer any extra features like broadcasting from her mic, which she wants to do.

mpd can stream to both icecast and shoutcast servers. It can even stream all alone using a httpd output plugin... the latter is only available in the git version or in the 0.15alpha1 release, but its worth checking it out!
