How Streaming is Changing Music

Craig McFadden manages content licensing at Pandora, the Oakland based subsidiary of Sirius XM Holdings Inc. Pandora is the largest streaming music provider in the U.S, providing a highly-personalized listening experience to approximately 70 million users each month with its proprietary Music Genome Project®.

Craig McFadden was an early member of the YouTube music team and holds an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Revenue from online streaming, seen by some as the music industry’s savior, has surpassed both physical sales (e.g., CDs) and downloaded songs (e.g., iTunes), and streaming services (e.g. Spotify, Pandora) are making it possible for artists with no mainstream presence or even record label contracts to make a living.

Craig will summarize how streaming is reshaping both the music people listen to and the music that artists create, describe the strategic challenges to the industry and comment on how streaming may make it easier for listeners to discover new artists and albums from a wider variety of artists.
