Greg Unangst

What’s Happening on Moffett Field?

Greg Unangst is the Co-Chairman of the Restoration Advisory Board (RAB), Moffett Federal Field. The RAB is intended to improve public participation by involving members who reflect the diverse interests of the local community in the Navy’s environmental restoration decision-making process. He is also active in Mountain View and Silicon Valley transportation and bicycle advocacy.

After graduating from West Point, Greg spent 10 years on active duty including duty in Vietnam ultimately retiring as a Reserve Lieutenant Colonel. His military awards include the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Combat Infantry Badge.  In addition to his BS in General Engineering from West Point, Greg earned a dual MS in Systems/Electrical Engineering and an MBA, both from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Masters in Public Policy from NYU.

Greg started his civilian career in 1978 and worked in the Aerospace/Satellite industry for Ford Aerospace, Loral and Lockheed-Martin until his retirement in 2011. At L-M he was awarded a President's Circle Award in 2000 for work in Advanced Satellite Communications Systems.

Greg will give an update on what’s happening on Moffett Field, including NASA’s activities (What are they doing? Are they leaving?), Google’s plans (what are they doing? Do they own it?) and Hanger One (Is it always going to be a skeleton?). Greg will also comment on what the Army is doing on a former Naval Air Station and if there’s a Superfund site issue that will never be resolved, and finally asks:  Does anybody really control Moffett Field?
