Craig Clements
"Shining a Light on Extreme Fire Behavior"
Craig Clements, Associate Professor in the Department of Meteorology
and Climate Science at San Jose State University, oversees their Fire
Weather Research Laboratory, where Doppler LiDAR (Light Detection And
Ranging) is used to study the towering smoke plumes generated by wildfires.
Professor Clements will give an overview of the technology used to
analyze the smoke plume above a wildfire, describe how the technology
has been deployed for several wildfires (including the 2012 El Portal
fire in Yosemite National Park), and note how understanding the weather
effects from wildfires can better predict how they spread and where the
smoke will be, and ultimately help save firefighter’s lives.

2. Chicken/Beef/Lamb Kabob, rice, vegetables: $22
