Emily Weak and Ann Awakuni
June 10
Maker Mountain View
Emily Weak is Librarian, Adult & Virtual Services and Ann Awakuni is Technology Librarian at the Mountain View library, which has offered several technology related programs through its Maker Mountain View project, started last year through grant funding. An evening event on 3D printing drew over 300 people to hear presentations and view 3D printers in action. Earlier this year the WikiSeat challenge was held. This month long project engaged people of all ages in a design/build effort to create tripod seats, given only a small key piece (necessary to make the seat structurally sound).
Emily and Ann will give an overview of Maker Mountain View’s activities, and discuss their mission to broaden the library’s role from just a place to store books to a communal space for building things, collaborating and sharing ideas, and promoting technological literacy.
