Greses Pérez March 10
Integrating Diverse Voices into the Tech Industry
Greses Pérez is an engineer and educator pursuing a Ph.D. at Stanford University in science education and learning sciences and technology design. In a recent Mercury News op-ed piece, Greses gave a first person account of tech discrimination, noted that women and minorities make up less than 15% of technology designers, and described several ways that bias against half the population is built into the machines and algorithms in use today.
Greses holds a MEng and BS in Civil Engineering from the University of Puerto Rico and INTEC, and a MEd from Southern Methodist University. Her main research interests are the intersection of science and engineering education, technology, and bilingualism.
Greses will discuss her work in engineering and science education, show how technology discriminates against minorities and women, and describe her mission to increase the representation of minorities and women in engineering & science, so the technology of tomorrow will benefit everyone.
