Oftenmostly) housenumbers are missing on the map and sometime it is really difficult to find a certain house.
So i would like to add house numbers to the map by editing via Maps.me on my Android tablet.
That would be great, but it is possible at all and how?
I am not sure that it would be a good tool for the original poster as they are likely to be adding a single full address here and there rather than a set of numbers for an entire street. Also, Keypad Mapper generates a file which you then have to process in an editor (I use JOSM) while it is my understanding that Vespucci can directly add the data to the OSM website/database.
i just picked a shop on the map, tapped it longer and got the white description. OK so far. but there is nothing to edit or add anyway. i might leave a review thats all.
next go was a house without number. tapped it an got the white description, nothing to edit or change, i only might view whats allready there.
At the moment im on WIFI, so i have my internet connection.
You can also use street complete. When you are there you can add a OSM note with the houseumber and take a picture of the building. Then you or other mapper can add. With street complete you can also add other kind of data, which the app detects as missing (surface type, lights, lanes, names, etc)
Now i found out whats missing. On my
maps.me i can expand the white panel but i dont get this EDIT PLACE button.
its just not there.
When i use in the main menue, i can add eg. store, bank appartements, but no building. after this dialog i can log into openstreetmap account and save to OSM.
I did it yesterday. I added a vet doctor, that worked out and its allready on the map.
Yesterday i found a street, where no houses are mapped anyway, so i could not add housenumbers. I will have to add the houses first.
When i found out how to do it, i will even add this little street in the middle of nowhere.
Adding things on Maps.me might be challenging.
Hey, pizzadriver, the problem you had with MapsMe is quite simple. It has a built in mechanism to prevent editing if the map is outdated (older then one month if I remember correctly). The maps usually get update with the new release of the App. And with the previous release we had no update for about 2 months already. So nobody using MapsMe could edit OSM. Just FYI for the future.
Once i mapped the housenumbers in one street from 1 to 25. OK worked.
Now i look at just this street on my desktop firefox.
Housenumber 1 is just visible in zoomlevel 19 and thats all.
The other housenumbers are visible only in the zoomlevel 17.
An other street i added housenumbers its different. All the housenumbers are visible in level 17, 18, 19
So whats this? Is the display depending on the zoomlevel and how do i adjust it?
I looked at this on the browser with potlatch and there is no difference in the tags.
Did i do something (wrong)?
Ok, i know it now ! Recently we had an update again. But it only updated the main APP not the maps.
The APP now contains commercial ads.
Ok, i offerd them to pay the paid plan with bitcoin or dash but they did not want this. so i dont pay for the moment
When you export bookmarks from either
maps.me or organic maps a "link" is sent via email that the recipient can select to automatically open the file in Organic aps,
MAPS.ME Guru Maps, Gaia GPS but not OSMAND.The file sent is apparently not a normal .kmz or .kmlHow can I save the link as .kmz or .kml which I know how to use.I would like to import the file to JOSM as a gpx layer or to open the file in Google Maps or UMAP
I just saved a bookmarks file (".kmz") from
maps.me to my local phone folder, pushed it over to my Windows PC and opened it successfully in JOSM. It also opened successfully in OSMAnd (from my phone's file explorer). What is not working exactly? Maybe something went wrong when "a "link" is sent via email".
TZom, I found the answer for my Pixel 5 Android phone. Thanks for your advice, it forced me to dig deeper. The answer is to install an app to allow sharing a file. The Android OS is not outwardly file based. There is no innate capability in Android to save files to a filesystem. Applications by themselves may optionally implement a file based solution, but some may not. Sometimes the only way to save files in an application is by sharing them to other applications. For example, if there is an .kmz generated by an application, I have share that .kmz to e-mail, e-mail it to myself, and then save the file attachment in my downloads folder. This is a lot of steps just to save a file. The "Share to File System" application makes it easy for you to save files to the file system without having to rely on a lot of steps to save a file. This application allows you to save files directly to the file system using android's share dialog.
Not really. The only overlay you can get in Maps.me is the bookmarks (points) via a KML. Convert a shp of points to kml using GDAL or QGIS (if using Open Source tools) and follow the recipe from support page -us/articles/207895029-How-to-import-bookmarks-
For lines, although I did not see a mention in the doc, you should also open the KML with lines. I was able to see the lines using the same process as the bookmarks tutorial using my own device. For polygons, it does not seem to work.
A late answer (just dscovered this Maps.me StackExchange whilst looking for help myself!). I have had success uploading shp polygons to
maps.me if you first convert the polygon into a multilinestring (I do this in R, but assume there are methods in QGIS), then convert to a .kml
This method done not work well for me (I do not know why) when the multilinestring derives from a multipolygon or complex polygon (e.g. multiple polygons with shared boundaries). Maps.me then uploads the file and correct polygon(s), but adds some extra lines, linking nodes, that were not in the original shp.
DO NOT--I SAY AGAIN NOT--ever download any region's map file using a cell phone plan's minutes. You can't afford it. But if you've got the regions you'll need downloaded before leaving home, its entirely free.
I've used it with no issues in the British isles, Ireland, Norway, and all over the USA. I've had no trouble plotting driving directions and routes and listening to it tell me where to go. If you're going to be in the middle of nowhere without wifi I consider it indispensable.
I have been singing the praises of
maps.me for years! We lived in Europe for 5 years and used it on every single trip. We used it for driving but also for walking through cities (think Venice where it is so easy to get lost). I have not found a better NO DATA map app!!
Adam, it has been a while since i have used Google Maps offline. But when i did i found it a bit awkward having to highlight areas that i wanted to use off line. I was always worried that i may have missed something by not covering all the areas or failing to zoom in enough. On the other hand, the more you zoomed in, the more layers of information get downloaded. I could care less about getting a writeup on every single restaurant in a city that I was only going to be visiting half a day. I just preferred not fiddling with offline Google Maps.
For me, a map app is only used when absolutely necessary. I want it to be accurate and complete, but simple without lots of info overload. Maps.me is easy to upload the maps for a whole country and has proven to give me just enough details that i need without overloading too much and slowing down the response time of my device.
I read the great reviews about City Maps to Go. I downloaded it and have tried to work with it, but neither I, nor any of my friends (nor our children) can get a handle on it. Is
maps.me easier to work with? If not, is there anyone out there who has figured out how to work with the city maps. I downloaded a map of Milan, but can figure out how to get it to show the streets level nor how to find directions from one place to another.
thank you
Lori
I downloaded Maps.me before my recent trip to France, and downloaded some maps. I wound up using Google Maps instead, to the extent I used any phone maps on the trip. I could never get the hang of Maps.me. But mostly we just used our paper maps. I would map a route on Google Maps while on wifi, go over the route on a paper map with my wife, and then she would navigate.
Maps.me takes up less memory and provides all available details in a single map file. For example if i download the Vancouver Map, which is a single complete file, it includes everything in southwestern BC including well past north of Whistler and east to almost but not including Kelowna and only takes up about 50 MB. Maps.me gives you a lot of details on restaurants hotels shopping etc. and nothing is missing depending on how much you zoomed when you download (see below for comparison with google)
With Googles Map if you approximate the same area as
maps.me for download, it will take almost 150 MB, which is 3 times as much memory. Another thing is if you down load a wide area some of the details are lost in the downloaded map compared to when you zoom in on a tighter area bfore downloading. For example if you make a download of southwestern bc and then download just downtown Vancouver and compare the two offline maps of the block where the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver is located, there is a big difference in the details and the number of shops and restaurants.
I would rather not have to download a wide map and then a bunch of zoomed in maps under google and switch back and forth. With
maps.me there is a single map file. The details are not as great as with a zoomed in google map, but i have found the details to be pretty darn good. Certainly, major attractions, hotes, restaurants and shops are there. Also, a nice feature is that the address numbers are shown in
maps.me.
