TARRACE Update Day 2
We arrived successfully in Bissau, The Republic of Guinea Bissau
tonight 21:05 GMT 7 December 2008.
The journey was easy but long due to multiple police and military
check-points and one long wait for the ferry to cross the San Vicente
River.
As with all delays in Africa, it is a chance to make new discoveries
and to forge new relationships. We do both in The San Vicente River
ferry queue, despite the language barrier posed by the local
Portuguese. We meet Michael, a businessman from Bombay (Mumbai).
When I challenge him on the name of his city and mention the recent
terrorist problem there, he immediately places blame on his
neighboring Pakistan. Where is Rodney King when you need him?
We also meet Ensa, a Gambian who works for a local RGB NGO who is
traveling from Dakar in his BMW and who is very helpful since he
speaks English and Portuguese. He informs us that he has recently
taken the journey form Guinea Bissau to Guinea Conakry and that it
will take close to 3 days rather that the one day that we have
planned.
We tried all possible avenues but our local RGB contacts phone is not
answering. We will try again in the morning and push for departure to
the unexpectedly distant Guinea Conakry.
We will keep you posted.

Glad to hear you arrived safely in Bissau. Reggie, I just phoned our Bissau contact person immediately after I read your email and got him on the phone. He said he was travelling from Dakar and arrived in Bissau last night. However I'm hopeful that you were able to work it out.
I'm not sure will read this email until you're in Conakry but all I do is pray and keep yourselves safe!!!
