We are currenty in Kinshasa, The Democratic Republic of the Congo. We
have concluded the TARRACE after 24 days and 14 out of 17 countries-
80% completion of the journey.
Due to road, timing and cost difficulties we have decided to end this
years attempt at crossing the continent after completing 14 countries;
Senegal, The Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Guinea, Sierra Leon, Liberia, Cote
d'Ivoire, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Cameroun, The Central African
Republic, and finally The Democratic Republic of The Congo.
The travel through The Democratic Republic of the Congo while quite
possible proved to excede our budget and timing constraints. We
reached Bumba, The DRC on Saturday 27 December after a 4 hour outboard
motorboat ride from Lisala. Since we did not have our own vehicles,
we found that from there we would need to either take motorcycles for
two days, take a boat for 5 days, or fly to Kinshasa and then fly back
to Kisangani in order to complete to voyage.
For 2008, we have elected to end The TARRACE at this point.
We are extremely pleased about our accomplishments to this point and
we thank you for all of your support and interest. We look forward to
our next attempt in December 2010 and hope that you can participate at
that time in The TARRACE 2010. Look for our documetary film of The
TARRACE 2008 soon.
