Many Christians love Astrology, Numerology, and other forms of
Divination, but feel guilty about it. Many churches preach against the
use of these arts. Did you know that the Bible actually approves of
divination?
The Book of Job
In the great morality play of the Old testament, the book of Job, Job
is defending himself to his friends, who are arguing with him. In the
12th chapter he says "Ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the
birds of the air and they will tell you." This is a clear reference to
known omens used in divination. That reading the actions of animals,
and the flight of birds can predict certain events.
He goes on to say, "Speak to the earth and it will teach you, or let
the fish of the sea inform you." So here we have a righteous man of
God suggesting that his friends look to the omens of nature to see
that the hand of the Lord has brought him down to his cursed state.
1st Corinthians
In Paul's first letter to the Corinthians chapters 12 and 14; he talks
about spiritual gifts; how these gifts are given to men for the common
good. In chapter 12, he list off several gifts, including " to another
man, prophecy." Indicating that this was a gift from God.
Later in chapter 14, he speaks specifically about the gifts of
Prophecy, and of speaking in Tongues. He tells the people to "eagerly
desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy." And then at
the end of the chapter, he says that "you can all prophesy in turn, so
that everyone may be instructed and encouraged."
The implication is that Paul believed that prophesy and divination
were gifts possessed by many people, and that they were to practice
them and share with their brethren what they had seen.
Conclusion
So, we have evidence from the Bible that Prophesy, and divination
weren't evil, but rather that they were gifts from God, to be desired
by Christians, and used for the common good of all; a far cry from the
idea spread by many churches today. So; go ahead and get that
Numerology or Tarot reading with a clean conscience.
