to Tarkiln 2009
Tarkiln Community Center Committee
This five member committee will require a quorum of three members to
do Town business. The committee will be primarily responsible for
supporting the town's procurement of contractually purchased and
donated materials, services and labor to achieve the Tarkiln Partial
Historic Restoration goal as set forth in Duxbury's 2009 Annual Town
Meeting Motion #18. Also, as determined by the Town Manager and Board
of Selectmen, the Tarkiln Community Center Committee may
assist the town in defining an operating budget for Tarkiln,
advise the town on the preparation of a Tarkiln business plan,
support the marketing of Tarkiln as community meeting space, and
perform other functions related to re-establishing the Tarkiln
Community Center as a going concern.
Member nominations
The proposed core membership is Rick Cowen, R.Taggart Carpenter ,
Terry Vose, Susanna Sheehan
For the Town, Peter Butkus (preferred) or Scott Lambiase or Chris
Smythe - whoever is most available at full attendance (see schedule
below).
Jon Witten as selectmen's liaison, alternate / non-voting member
Steve Wonkka as an alternate, only voting if present and if a quorum
is needed
Committee Operation
Schedule: Propose standing bi-weekly meetings every other Tuesday
or Wednesdy (or day to be determined), with optionally a weekly
meeting as needed.
Term: This committee will be active at least until the CPC funded
construction is materially complete, which we hope will be no later
than October 2009.

New Contributors
Rick Cowen is a general contractor and experienced historical
preservation project manager. His most recent project was the Louise
May-Alcott house.
Steven Wonkka is a registered architect with experience in
institutional, municipal and residential projects from renovations to
new construction. He recently completed renovations and new additions
on the Chatham Community Center, and is currently providing
professional consulting services to firms from Boston to Cape Cod and
pursuing local residential projects.
