Preface: Attached is this year’s hare schedule for anyone interested in signing up. A quick note of reassurance for those who may feel hesitant: hosting a hash does not have to mean entertaining at home. If that feels overwhelming, skip it entirely. We’re lucky to have several great parks in the area, many with nearby trails worth exploring. Picnic shelters often have posted reservation information, and even without one, an outdoor meet‑up works beautifully.
Refreshments can be simple — truly. A casual picnic spread is more than enough, and if the weather is on the nippy side, we all know how to dress for it. The goal isn’t to be fancy; it’s to create a relaxed space where everyone can unwind and mingle after the romp.
We also want to encourage more folks to give haring a try. You won’t be on your own — we have plenty of seasoned hashers who are happy to guide new hares through the process. It’s a fun way to contribute, explore new corners of the local areas, and keep our trails fresh and interesting. I hope this helps clear up any concerns you may have had about haring and makes the idea feel a little more inviting.
And speaking of trails worth exploring, check out what’s in store for this Saturday’s hash. It’s sure to be a good time!
PS: Many thanks to everyone who has already paid their annual dues this year. For those who haven’t had a chance yet, this is a gentle reminder that your contribution helps cover our shared costs — including the Flickr Pro photo‑sharing platform where I upload albums from every hash for the kennel to enjoy. Your support keeps our archive going strong.
PPS: It would be wonderful to have more hashers capturing a few photos during the event and emailing them to me afterward. It’s always fun to see the trail through different eyes, and your shots help round out the album for everyone to enjoy. My email can be found near the top of the attached 2026 hare schedule.
Thanks and On-On,
Lickety Spit

HARES: Big Box and Jerkules
DATE: Tomorrow, Saturday, January 17th, 2026
TIME: 1pm – Please be prompt! After circling and learning trail detail from the hares, it will be time to skidaddle!
WHERE: Starting location will be at the hares’ abode, 1509 Rosedale Ave, Durham, NC 27705
HOW TO GET THERE: Bring your GPS to make life easier. Also – below is the link to the hares’ home address. Once done, you’ll find directions to the hash.
WALKERS: Bringing technology on trail is a good option, with the hares’ address on the GPS. Better safe than sorry!
DOGS: No dogs, please. They must sit this one out at home.
WORDZ FROM DA HAREZ:
Start the New Year off right by coming to the hash January 17th!
This outing will take you through a mix of settings — wooded paths, quiet neighborhoods, and possibly a park or two — with a chance to spot some urban wildlife along the way. The location is hard to beat: we’re just steps from the picturesque Forest Hills Park and only a short distance from downtown.
The surrounding neighborhoods are full of character, with uniquely designed homes and yards that remain beautiful even in winter. It’s a great area to explore, and an even better one to kick off the year’s first hash.
Be sure to dress warmly and bring cozy clothing for the On-After if you might want to sit around an outdoor fire. (There will also be indoor hang-out space, if that’s preferred.)
See you soon – Cheers and On-On!
THINGS TO REMEMBER:
Please be prompt and remember the early start time:
1pm!
Dress accordingly, with warm layers to fend off the
winter chill both on trail and afterwards..
When you bring a bag with a change of clothes for the Après, be sure to include something to keep warm if you’d like to hang outside by the fire.
● If you have a lawn chair, bring it along, too.
