Saving the best for last: I always look forward to Hazukashii’s Thought for the day, and this month, he declares:

“I drive way too fast to worry about cholesterol.”

Here's to life in the fast lane! (So much more adrenaline-charged than “Life in the fat lane”, wouldn’t you agree?)

So, with no further ado, Heeeere’s  Hazukashii!

Cheers and On-On,

Lickety Spit

World Hash Events  August 2026    by Ed “Hazukashii” Howell

 Greetings Hashers,

What a year 2026 is turning out to be. The first half is almost over, and 69 hash events have been posted to the International Hash Calendar. The second half of the year already has 53 more events for you to choose from . . . so happy trails, and grab your passports. Its time to flyyyyyyy.

On-On another note . . . As promised, and as I stated in my book . . . I have made a contribution to the Hash Heritage Foundation for the preservation of HHH History. I paid $525 to get it published, so the profit is $1878.20 . . . but I sent $2000 USD to cover any lingering sales that may pop up.

Well, Interhash, InterCaribbean Hash, and InterScandi Hash are over, and InterGulf has been postponed. BUT, if you are still looking for a great new adventure, check this out:

There are still regos available for Pan South America Hash to be held 20-22 Nov 2026 in Montevideo, Uruguay. Founded in 2021, the first event was held in 2024, in Brasilia, Brazil. See what happened then. There is still time to get in on this great event, rego on Pan SoAm 2026.

Happiest Moments with Hash House Harriers in Indonesia 🇮🇩 | Friendship, Fun & Adventure!

___________________________

I don’t do obituaries in this publication, but I would like to post a tribute to a great hasher.  To my friend:

Ron "The Penguin" Strachan

Ron started hashing in Jakarta, Indonesia on the occasion of the 200th running of the Jakarta Hash.  He knew from the start, that this was his kind of fun and quickly became a regular attendee.  He was Scottish by birth, born and raised in Aberdeen, but would spend many years traveling the world not only for his work, but to enjoy one of the most important activities in his life . . . HASHING. On On to Oman . . . It all began when Roger Forrest, who had been hashing in Brunei, teamed up with the support of Peter Courtney Green, Dave 'Skid' Marks, Ron Strachan, and Johnny Johnson to founded the first Hash House Harriers - Oman on 25 October 1976.  During one of the many conversations I had with Ron, he provided me with various details, including the first hash trash.

During one of our many Q&A sessions, about the hash in Oman, Ron stated . . .

Most of the Founders were in the military but I was a consultant to the Sultan's Armed Forces during the reconstruction of Izki camp.  I was Hare on Run No 2 with Frazer Paton but I only managed the first 8 runs before heading to Scotland for home leave before returning to Jakarta in 1977.

His time in Oman would soon come to an end though, and by the end of December, he was already on his way out.  The hash trash included the follow excerpt:

It is Ron Strachan’s last run next week and I would like to take this opportunity of thanking him for his support and enthusiasm for the hash from the beginning.  Ron is an old Hash hand from the wilds of Indonesia and has faithfully turned up to all our runs despite the long drive from Izki each time [Note: Izki is roughly 125 kms south-west of Muscat, so roughly up to a two hour drive each way].  He even tells me that he discovered to his horror, that his firm had booked his flight out on a Monday, but soon changed that – good on yer mate!  Drop us a line with some more of those Scottish stories when you get back to Indonesia!

As other clubs began forming throughout Oman, the name was changed to the Muscat H3.  Ron’s support of getting things going in Muscat back in 1976 would further result in wide expansion throughout the country.  By 1989, 8 other hash clubs were running over the sand dunes of Oman, and the 90s would see yet a couple more clubs to also form.

Back in Jakarta, Ron rejoined the hash and soon became the Hash Master leading the charge to host INTERHASH 1982 where nearly 1300 hashers enjoyed 3 days of hashing in and around Jakarta.  The event was a huge success, although not without controversy, as reported in the post event Through the ensuing years, Ron was a regular attendee of many hashing events, and attended every INTERHASH, with the exception of Phuket in 1992 due to a family emergency.

Based on his long history of hashing in Indonesia, Ron was a regular on the IndoNostalgia Hash, established back in the UK for those wayward hashers that previously hashed in Indonesia, and feel left out by the current state of hashing in the UK.  The website describes it as . . .

What is the Indonostalgia Hash?  It is unique in Britain in that it follows the traditional Far Eastern Hash format, not for the Monday Run, but for the away week-end! Runs are designed to take ALL Hashers one hour and are followed by a traditional circle that lasts at least twice as long as the run.

Ron has always been a dedicated hasher, and a notable contributor to the historical aspects in my book.  He was a true blue hasher, turning up at his local Aberdeen H3 right up to his passing at the age of 80.  He was a great hashman, always ready to assist a fellow hasher in need . . . Rest In Peace my friend, you will be missed

HASH HISTORY

In the Spotlight - Full Moon Hashing

There are numerous Full Moon H3 clubs around the world these days, seems every big city can boast of having one of these monthly hash clubs. But do you know when and where they became such a phenomenon? My first recollection of running a Full Moon hash was back on Okinawa in 1984-85, when the Okinawa H3 would occasionally host a Full Moon trail as part of their normal rotation.

After digging through the hash archives, there is some scant evidence of full moon hash club forming in

Singapore in 1983, Christchurch in 1984, and Chicago in 1987. I was unable to validate any existence in Singapore and Christchurch, but was able to validate with Horn-E that the Chicago Full Moon H3 actually started in 1988.

So, that leaves San Diego as the “Original” home of the first Full Moon H3 club. Digging into the history books, we find that the founder of the Okinawa H3 (1980) was Dal ‘Jock’ Trader, who coincidentally also founded the San Diego H3 in 1981. Hmmm, I think we found a link . . . but, the Original Full Moon H3 in San Diego was founded by John ‘Mr Spock’ Martin, ably assisted by David ‘Van Go’ Painter on 17 October 1987.  So I contacted Jock, but he has never run a full moon hash, so that also is a dead end.

I would be very interested to hear from anyone out there with any background, and actual documented evidence, on their first experience with a Full Moon hash club prior to 1987
