Hazukashii: World Hash Events in April 2026

Greetings, Tarheel Hashers!
A week ago, Hazukashii’s article on World Hash Events in April appeared in my inbox, and after a week of multiple distractions, I am finally able to share it with you. Bravo!
Summarizing the main points,
●Hazukashii says that, as of early this year, at least 70 hash events are already scheduled worldwide, with more added each month.
●The 2026 Interhash offers a more efficient, “Fast Track” registration, open for those who have already registered and paid. Hazukashii reminds those who will be there to cast votes for Kenya to host Interhash 2028; if this happens, this will be the first Interhash to take place in Africa!
●A long list of hash clubs turn 40 this year – a few are dormant, but many more are still thriving worldwide. Impressive!
●Hashing in the News includes a feature on “drinkers with a running problem”; the reopening of Cambridge’s smallest pub; and Coverage of the Absa Kampala H3’s 7 Hills Run, raising money to support girls’ education.
●More upcoming events, March through August of this year, include
March 13-15: Cambodia-Vietnam Border Hash
April 24-26: SHOT (Solstice Hash On Tour) Version 2 in Istanbul, Turkey
June 19-21: German Hashathon (Munich)
July 2-5: USA Nash Hash (Ohio)

●In the Hash History Feature, Hazukashii corrects several myths about early HHH history.
He points out that the founders were expatriates/businessmen, not military officers.
Early runs were held on Fridays, not Mondays.
He then points out the military’s later role in spreading hashing worldwide.
●Book Announcement: Hazukashii’s TRUE TRAIL – How Hashing Migrated Around the World is published, and proceeds support the Hash House in Kuala Lumpur.

●Thought for the Day: Hazukashii recommends a simple tactic for reclaiming your personal space when a stranger settles in a little too close—an approach that’s as original as it is playfully effective.
And really, that’s part of the charm of hashing worldwide: a stranger on trail can start as entertainment and end up a lifelong friend.

HASH HISTORY:
Over the next few months I will be providing historical facts, to dispel many of the false accounts of HHH
history.
Early on it was believed that:
Gispert, and the other early members were British military officers posted to Kuala Lumpur.
Another version is they were officers living in military barracks.
FALSE: Actually, they were British expats/businessmen, working in Kuala Lumpur at the time. Gispert and
‘Torch’ Bennet worked together for Evatt & Co as accountants. Horse worked for the newspaper, and
others worked in other businesses.
The military rumor was construed from G being a volunteer in the Federated Malay States Volunteer Forces (F.M.S.V.F.). Capt Gispert was Officer in Charge (OC) of “A” Company (Machine Guns) although Torch claimed G was second in command.
They had their weekly volunteers’ Parade night (drills) on Monday evenings. Another myth to dispel, is that when the HHH started, the runs were on Monday evenings, this is also FALSE. Runs before the war were held on Friday
evenings, it was not until after the war that the runs were on Monday night, when the HHH restarted in August 1946.
Unfortunately, G was killed when the Japanese invaded Singapore; Torch and Horse was later captured
and spent a fair bit of time as POWs.
This is not meant to be a complete biography on their military service, just to establish that they were not in SE Asia on military assignment. They were connected to the military as volunteers, and called up or volunteered for active service after the invasion.
The military has, however, had a huge impact on how the HHH spread around the world. More details can be read in an
