Josiah,
I have not made it there yet, I got caught up into something unexpected. Thanks for opening the garden.
I am heading down there now to do some work.
I am waiting to call 911 until I hear back from Judith. She said to talk to the cops at precinct 79 so I want to know how I go about that .
I can go there today in person.
Does anyone know about this, is it the police station on classon and dekalb?
Jeffrey,
I doubt it happened at night, because in the morning everything was OK and then all the mess was there in the evening. I will check to see if all the doors are still open. Thanks for letting us know.

Judith,
I just spoke to one of the building owners from across from the Garden. He says he will ask his tenants who face the garden if they saw any thing?
The owner his partners and a visitor to garden who appeared as I was leaving were all surprised to learn that Target is indeed a community garden as I have suspected for some time mow it seems to me that few people in the community actually understand
who & why the Garden belongs to them?
With all due respect to your suggestion that we reduce the open hours and in
A way restrict community access I truly believe we should first try the opposite approach and come up with ways to make the garden feel more open to the community and make sure the message that the garden belongs to all in our community is clear as I believe
this will foster more of a community wide nurturing and protective attitude for such a great shared community amenity.
All,
Any thoughts / comments feedback on these suggestions?

Hi All
Still in VA. I am so upset to hear about the Garden. We definitely need to inform the police with any facts about timing etc. Our block association has a connection with the community officer at the 79th and they want to know about vandalism. We may
have to reduce the hours that the Garden can be open. I understand that by law as a community garden we need be open 20 hours per week. We are currently open on average 63 plus hours per week. Perhaps we need to rethink our open hours to satisfy just 20
hours per week and of course those of you who are gardening and have keys can go in whenever you need to. This is especially distressing because it speaks to a general erosion of community respect. I will e-mail John Hugee who is the president of our block
association and get them involved. As I said we do have a connection with the 79th precinct and they should know.
I will be back in NY on Thursday and will follow up. In the meantime, perhaps if any of you who are around can maybe police the Garden a little bit.
I don't understand who would do this! Someone should have seen something. It must have taken place during daylight! Anyway, we will fight back!!!
More later,
Judy
