Im trying find software to view .img files. But its not expected. .img file its not all images, it contains some values too. So I would like to view the .img file. Please advise any software like that.
Most widely .img is used as a raw filesystem image of e.g. a floppy disk. As mentioned by others, such images can be opened by a number of programs. Or directly mounted under Unix-like systems like BSD and Linux. 7-Zip is also able to extract files from such images for supported filesystems, such as FAT. At least the command-line version. Just type 7z x image.img and it will extract the included files.
.IMG files are ususally filesystems, not pictures. The easiest way to access them is to install VMWare, install Windows in VMWare, and then add the .img file as some kind of disk device (floppy, cdrom, hard disk). If you guess the right kind, Windows might be able to open it.
With *nix, usually, you don't need a software to view an .img file. You can use the loop device to mount it and then every file manager to navigate it. Here you can find how. Sometime you need to install some package to manage strange filesystem like squashfs.
It might be rare, but I found this "visual picture" .img file hiding in plain sight on the homepage of the Edge browser. Microsoft Edge had a shortcut to Amazon.ca on the New-tab page, along with Amazon's icon. When I downloaded the icon it had the .img file extension.
None of my photo software was able to give an auto-preview of this .img file, but I knew it was a visual picture image. The html web-page context of the image's source made me think of a favicon, so I tried renaming the .img with an .ico extension, and it worked!
"I downloaded the icon" from the F12 Console, see screenshot, since it wasn't available for download from the page itself. Even without downloading, the .img extension is seen in the html code and the image itself is visible when opening it in a new Edge tab. (see screenshot screen shot of html in Edge browser with .img picture file)
"able to give an auto-preview", meaning that I wanted to see the picture content in Windows 10 File Explorer as an icon of any size (View menu) and in the Preview pane. You still need some of the other Windows settings mentioned in above posts, such as:
"None of my photo software was able to give an auto-preview", addresses that if the .img file type was associated with a particular app, would it auto-preview? Note that most apps WERe able to open the .img as a picture, but not give a preview. For example:
Just open the zip file in Winzip, double click on the image file (or right click on it, click open). It should open in whatever app the file extension is associated with. Or you can right click, click open with and select any other suitable app. (I have Winzip 11, not sure about earlier versions; Winzip pro has a built in image viewer, but I don't have that).
Yah it would be doing that way but its like you dont have to actually click on each images to have preview rather this application will do it for you. as well it says its fastest image loading app so delay will be very less i guess.
The whole point on "Zipping" is to reduce file size, and make it easier to transfer, and it re-writes the files into smaller bytes, making them unviewable / readable, that the human brain can understand
Look, the thumbnail is created by the OS reading the file - the full image file. It's not stored in header information, so whether it's extracted to memory, filesystem temporarily or filesystem properly - it is STILL extracted. No other way is possible.
You can preview hundreds of file types in Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint, without installing the application used to create the file. The previews and thumbnail images appear in the web view and for customers using Files On-Demand in Windows 10.
Hello, I recently got a Raspberry Pi 4 to test out how it works using HQPlayer as an NAA endpoint. I downloaded the image from Signalyst, extracted w/ 7Zip and flashed it to the micro SD card using Balena Etcher. However, I'm getting no ethernet activity lights and can't see the Pi in HQPlayer. Is there something else I need to do other than flash the NAA image?
So you got the Pi4. There shouldn't be anything else you need to do. However, I did have a weird problem once where the unzipping utility was not unzipping 7zip properly and also wasnt giving any notice of this. Took me forever to figure it out. I was beyond irritated when I finally figured out the problem. So. What platform are you unzipping it on, and what software did you use to unzip it?
Hi @AudioDoctor, I am facing some issues with the piCorePlayer with my Mano Farad Ultra streamer. Should I flash the latest version or can I flash Signalyst's NAA image for Holo Red (naa-500-raspberrypi4-holored.7z)? Much thanks again for all the help! ?
edit: actually, after googling that Mano Farad Ultra Strreamer, I am not sure you need any NAA or can even use HQPlayer at all. My googling tells me that it is already a network endpoint, and the website tells you which player software it works with.
Is this not your device? -ultra-mk3-music-super3-streamer-high-res/
Historically, Digital Elevation Model (DEM) data for Illinois have been mainly based on 5- to 10-foot contour data. Large-scale, digital topographic maps are most common; many data resources contain elevation information acquired in the 1920s and 1930s. DEM data collections are now being developed based on data with a contour resolution of 2 feet to 6 inches. A comparison between older data and newer high-resolution data shows remarkable improvement in recorded detail.
ILHMP has established data sharing agreements to archive and distribute elevation data for select Illinois counties. Data have been acquired using Light Detection And Ranging (LiDAR) technology, in compliance with different contract specifications. Data are offered as originally deliver LAS tile or as the derivative product of DEM/DTM or DSM.
Note: ZIP files are large in size; some may take several hours to download. Make certain your Internet provider does not have a 2GB cap or time limit on file downloads. Some users have had success using a free downloadable compression and extraction software called "7zip", if you are experiences errors when extracting this data, please try using "7zip" to extract. Submit a Help Request Form to receive any county by mail.
DEM: ground returns without hydrologic breaklines
When hydro-flattening is not imposed during processing of the ground returns, either because of missing or insufficient breakline data, the resulting Bare Earth elevation grid is classified as a DEM.
LAS
The LAS file format is a public file format for viewing the LiDAR point cloud data. Each data point is recorded with precise horizontal position, vertical elevation, and other attribute values.
Metadata
This is a file that describes the content, quality, condition, origin and other characteristics of the LiDAR data collection. The Metadata file also includes the appropriate citation to use when citing the Lidar data.
Tile Index
This is a shapefile of the point cloud tile boundaries with tile name. This file is helpful to view if you are interested in a smaller subset of the data to select specific tile names.
This web application allows users to select specific LAS tiles to download. Or, a whole county collection of data (las package, metadata, mosaic lidar derivatives (DEM/DTM or DSM) or image services) can be downloaded.
For personal usage I tend to keep things that I want to hide or protect in rar archives encrypted and protected with a password. Today I launched an antivirus scan, and as result it found malware in a folder in C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Temp. After further investigations, I noticed the presence of pictures and documents that are currently stored in rar archives (all protected by passwords and encrypted).
That lead me to the following question: if anytime I open a rar it caches its content, then is the whole encryption pointless, unless I clear the Temp folders? But does this happen for everything? Is there a safer way to store sensitive information?
Now I am not even sure if what I have already deleted is really gone or a copy is stored in some default folder. Not that I have to hide anything special, but I know that you can retrieve tons of information from a pc and that makes me paranoid.
Security is hard. While I applaud your attempts to use commonly available programs to increase your security, software that wasn't expressly designed for security often does the little things wrong (as you found out). In your case, your rar program makes a local cache of the contents, presumably so it'll run faster - something that most users would be happy about.
TL;DR: the single best way to protect yourself from data leakage on a personal computer is to use full-disk encryption (or encrypt your user's folder if it's a shared computer), a strong password for your user account, don't share your account with anyone, and make sure you log out (or at least lock your screen) whenever you step away from the computer. Also, turn on your firewall to make sure that programs aren't uploading data anywhere without your permission. That way, even if you are using programs that do the little things wrong, it doesn't matter.
