Hey everybody, back from London! I recruited several new Tarbell users at Mozfest and Hacks/Hackers London. I also got to meet Jessica Lord, creator of SheetSee, a JavaScript library for accessing Google spreadsheets that I consider a spiritual sibling of Tarbell.

The 0.9b1 release has gone pretty well. I suspect we will have at least two more releases til a stable 0.9.

I'd like to engage our small but growing community on a couple of key architectural questions:

* Using git submodules for base template. Right now, projects are direct descendants of the project template. This has proven clumsy and error prone. So I'm proposing we make the base template a submodule of new projects instead. Please offer your insight in the issue thread at
https://github.com/newsapps/flask-tarbell/issues/53

* Dropping s3cmd: Tarbell currently deploys to Amazon by calling the s3cmd command line utility. s3cmd is sophisticated and insanely fast. But it is hard to use as a library, a pain to configure, and doesn't offer per-file processing options (like gzipping text assets). Managing per-bucket security configuration is equally a pain. I'd like to propose refactoring Tarbell 0.8's S3 deployment code, which is slower than s3cmd but gives us more flexibility in file handling and simple configuration. Weigh in at https://github.com/newsapps/flask-tarbell/issues/54

Please file issues if you run into trouble. Once we make these final architectural decisions we'll need some help expanding the docs and fixing any bugs.
