Bigger Problem : I had locked many folders with this software when it was working fine.
But now I can't access those folders anymore, they're still locked but software doesn't show these folders in its "locked folders list".
How do I unlock them?
The software was working fine for few months - I was able to lock and unlock things in my computer during that period. But all of a sudden the software Folder Lock just got reset somehow.
I had the same problem. I was not able to retrieve my locked files but uninstall of folder lock without password is easily done by using for example speed commander (select folder lock from program files via speed commander and delete) Simple as that.(no password required) Can also be done with other file finding software as well.
The only way I know is to change the name of the parent directory in which the locked folder exists for example Pictures is the locked folder then change C:/Anything/Pictures to C:/Anything else/Pictures

With Hide Folders you can easily protect any number of folders and files on your computer. You can select any file or folder to protect from the program, drag-and-drop the desired files and folders from File Explorer into the Hide Folders window or protect the file or folder using File Explorer context menu.
Using a password to protect a folder means that you need to enter a password to see the list of documents in the folder. You can also password-protect individual files either in a password-protected folder or in a folder without password protection. The procedure is the same for files and folders.
It is not possible to use Windows to password-protect a folder in Windows 8 or Windows 10. You will need to download third-party software or use a zipped folder. If you elect to use third-party software, be sure you download it from a reputable source.
Although Microsoft has taken away the ability to password-protect a folder, you can still keep your confidential information private by using either a password-protected zipped folder or hiding files and folders so they don't appear in the directory list.
If need be, you can always create a Zipped folder containing your files, and add a password to that, but I'd suggest it would be more sensible to get your network Admin to set appropriate permissons for that folder.
My apologies - it seems Microsoft removed the facility to add passwords to a compressed folder a little while ago. You could still use a package such as 7Zip to create a secure Zip file, but I still think folder permissions set by the Network Admin would be the sensible way to go with this...
Yes, but the moment I decrypt the folders, they are readable in plain text by everyone else who has access to my file system. The only way to prevent this would be to decrypt the data exclusively in RAM. Which again only makes sense in case Obsidian does the decryption itself.
By the way, I am more or less a workaholic, the decrypted SSD would be connected to the system all day long.
I would like the possibility to lock (or hide) selected folders within Obsidian. Locking/hiding would mean that the contents of locked folders would not be accessible/visible to Obsidian and the user (as if those folders were none existent). Why? For two purposes (both are important to me):
It allows for some privacy when using the same device as others. For example letting other people use your phone or computer for a while. In this instance, all that is needed is a simple password lock for the app. Note I am not talking about encrypting the notes, just a password requirement to see the notes from the obsidian app.
Obsidian notes are not a proprietary format. In its core Obsidian is a text editor, aimed at .md files in your system. All your notes are simple text files that reside in a folder somewhere and can be viewed with even the most basic text editors.
You guys need to understand that Obsidian is a note taking app based on text files, inside regular folders. Asking question like can Obsidian encrypt my files is so out of scope that it blow my mind. Just use a regular encryption tool for files for that like Cryptomator or similar. Stop wasting devs time for useless features.
While working on my level I want to keep things tidy and organized. As a Blender user, I am used to locking (restricting the selection) folders or a specific object. Locking folders is in this case in the world outliner. This, of course, prevents selecting it and is useful when matching a level blockout.
The last thing is a bit silly but worth mentioning, I hide a lot of my objects to experiment with the final assets. So when I quit Unreal and start it the next day all of my objects are visible again. Working with small scenes is not a problem, but it is a nuisance when I need to hide the objects over and over.
Folder Lock comes with a powerful file shredder and a cloud-based backup solution as well. The demo is free, while the full-version is $39.95. Knowing how to lock a folder in Windows costs a bit of money, but the functionality and customization makes it worth it. Now you know how to password protect a folder.
You can also use disk-encryption software for more robust security than just a password. These tools block even the most advanced brute-force attacks, which try to crack passwords and encryption keys using different combinations.
This kind of full-encryption software adds an extra layer of security by incorporating both password and encryption protection to your files, meaning that the actual contents of files and folders are encrypted and protected by much stronger and more complex decryption keys.
With support for AES, Serpent, and TwoFish keys, VeraCrypt is a free, cross-platform data security tool that can encrypt files very effectively. VeraCrypt comes with full disk encryption but can encrypt at the volume (folder) level as well. Users can decide whether they want specific folders encrypted or entire systems.
Password protection is like locking something in a safe, like a highly sensitive document. Encryption is like rearranging all the letters in a document so that they can only be placed back in the correct order if you have a special decoder key.
You should password protect files because if you share your computer with others, someone might accidentally delete or modify an important file, or even share a private folder. You might even make the critical error yourself, accidentally sending sensitive information to the wrong person.
And you can always use Windows to encrypt an entire folder, as described above. Knowing how to password protect a folder and how to encrypt your files is key to making sure your content is locked up tight.
A "locked folder" can also mean a folder with files currently in use, but that's not the same idea as a folder you'd lock intentionally for privacy reasons. See How to Move, Delete, and Rename Locked Files for more on how those files work.
One option is to right-click the folder and choose Properties > Security > Advanced > Disable Inheritance > Convert inherited permissions into explicit permissions on this object. Then select a user from the list > Edit > Show advanced permissions > Type > Deny > and check the box beside Delete.
To hide files and folders in Windows 10, right-click the folder and select Properties > General > Hidden > Apply > OK. While you can prevent hidden files from displaying by adjusting the File Explorer view, other users can easily show hidden items by changing this setting. A third-party tool to add password protection locks and hides folders more effectively.
There are all kinds of programs and tools out there dedicated to hiding and encrypting folders, documents, and other kinds of files located on your machine, with the goal of protecting your privacy on a shared computer. But what about your external drives? If the thought of losing your pendrive fills you with dread, Hide Folder Ext is your application.
Hide Folder Ext is software aimed at hiding and blocking folders located in external drives like flash drives, external hard drives, memory cards, etc. Thanks to this application, you can transport your most private files with the security that no one else would be able to access your information if the drive were lost or stolen.
