Greetings on behalf of the Shaastra 2015 team!
This year, Shaastra is planning to take up several socially relevant causes and
utilize its reputation as one of India’s eminent technical festivals to make a major impact.
One of the major initiatives we have planned as part of this campaign is
Waste2Knowledge which includes a PledgeABook initiative. As part of this initiative we are encouraging individuals to donate used books (novels, encyclopedias, reference books, etc.) which will then be donated to libraries that cater to slum-dwelling school and college students.
To help us in bringing change, please do bring along any old books that you may
have at home and pledge them to this cause. We would like every student to
pledge at least one book to this cause. Those old Enid Blyton books that are
gathering dust on your shelves, or JEE textbooks that are now just a remnant of your past-these books could light up someone’s life! Every pledge brings a smile to the face of an underprivileged child who might never have had access to that book otherwise.
After all, in the words of Malcolm X, “People don’t realize how a man’s whole life can be changed by one book.”.
Every pledge changes a life!
