AUVSI ROBOSUB 2014
Introduction:
Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) are intelligent robots capable of performing a set of pre-defined tasks under the water, without acquiring any input from the user outside. They are self-powered and self-guided vehicles. Amogh is the first underwater vehicle of IIT Madras; conceptualized, designed and developed by a team of undergraduate students under the guidance of Prof V.G. Idichandy of Ocean Engineering Department.
Competition:
The Robosub Competition is one of the most prestigious underwater vehicle competitions where teams from around the globe participate. It is conducted annually by the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) in San Diego, USA. The competition intends to advance the development of AUVs by challenging the new generation engineers to perform realistic missions in an underwater environment.
Contest:
• The event takes place internationally.
• The competition witnesses variations in the problem statement every year with an increased level in difficulty.
• The AUV has to complete the problem statement in time duration of 15 minutes.
Credentials of Team IITM- AUV Amogh:
• The team has successfully crossed the first two rounds of the National Competition, conducted by NIOT, beating 17 other teams from the nation and has been selected as one of the top 10 teams for the final round.
• The team was placed 4th in Infosys Building the Enterprise Competition 2013 in Chennai Region.
• AUV Amogh has been selected as one of the top 24 innovations in the country to participate in the ‘Power of Shunya – The Challenge for Zero’ Show, hosted by ET NOW Group.
Work Profile:
1. Mechanical Team: Design, 3D-Modelling, Stress Analysis, Flow Simulation, Fabrication and Maintenance of the vehicle and its sub-modules.
2. Electrical Team: Electronic Control Systems Design & Integration, Acoustic Digital Signal Processing, Circuit Design.
3. Software Team: Development & Implementation of Underwater Navigation Algorithms, 3D Mission Simulator Design, Mission Controller Design, MCU Firmware Design, Image Processing Tasks. (C++/Java Skills Required).
4. Finance, Sponsorship & PR: Enhancing the Public & Industrial Outreach, Financial Management, Media Representative.
5. Design: Design of Brochures, Posters, Presentation & Website, Video Editing.
6. Web-Operations: Development & Maintenance Of Team Website (Skillset: CMS or Frontend/Backend Development Basics).

Eligibility:
All Under-Graduates except 1st Years are eligible to apply for the team. Applications for 1st year students will be opened later. Even Post-Graduates are eligible to apply for the team.
