How do you translate 'Besharam Rang' into English? Google Translate will tell you it's 'shameless colour'. But that shameless colour was hardly what lyricist Kumaar was aiming for. Even if he was, the subtitles on YouTube sure give no hint at it.
Soon after the video was posted on YouTube, fans flooded the comment section. A user wrote, "What a beautiful composition, she is singing like a gazal and such a musical with this, kudos to Shilpa Rao and Vishal, Sheykhar, this song is Giving feeling of gazal and at the same time it is a party pop song," while another wrote, "As beautiful Deepika is looking in this song, you simply can't deny the fact that it is Shilpa's vocals which takes the cake overall. What a banger of a song!"
According to the lyric subtitles on YouTube, it is a song about female desires which always make some people uncomfortable. It features Deepika Padukone in a series of bikinis including an orange, slit-skirted one in just the last few seconds. The colour of the last apparel in the sequence has been read as symbolic of Hinduism. In Pathaan, Padukone stars with, and dances with, Shah Rukh Khan, who plays an Indian RAW agent. In real life, Khan has increasingly been attacked for his religious background.
In the last few years, Padukone has emerged as one of the few Bollywood celebrities with a sense of civic responsibility that she displays openly. In January 2020, she visited the JNU campus, the site of violent attacks by a right-wing mob and an anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protest. It was an act of rare courage in the Indian film industry.googletag.cmd.push(function() googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-8052921-2'); );

The movie Bulbbul was released on Netflix on June 24 as a follow-up to Anushka Sharma's undying efforts to revive the horror genre in India. A lot of horror movies take references to old wives' tales and folklore for their plots and Bulbbul is no different. In a short video clip that is going viral on Twitter, Binodini (played by Paoli Dam) seems to be reciting a Bengali poem based on Hindu goddess Radha and god Krishna, respectively, in a singsong voice serving as a monologue for the scene featuring Bulbbul (played by Tripti Dimri). The Hindi subtitles of the Bengali words in the poem include unsavoury words such as besharm and haramzada.
To verify the authenticity of the video clip, we saw the movie at the exact location where the poem recital begins. We could not find the word haramzada used for Lord Krishna in the short video clip ubiquitous on social media. The word has now been edited to natkhat after the backlash. However, the word besharm for goddess Radha is still intact in the subtitles. The Bengali poem recited in the scene is Kolonkini Radha, which portrays the distasteful side of Goddess Radha, hence the words.
After the Pathaan trailer was released last week, the Delhi High Court on Monday directed Yash Raj Films (YRF) Production to add some changes to the film. As per a new report, the court has asked the production company to add 'subtitles, close captioning and audio description in Hindi' for hearing and visually-impaired people to enjoy the film OTT platforms. It has asked YRF to submit the changes to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) again for re-certification. The trailer opened with John Abraham-led mercenary outfit Outfit X wreaking havoc and announcing an impending attack on Indian soil. India's response is to bring back its spy -- Pathaan. The next sequence shows Shah Rukh's spy breaking out of a prison in a daredevil fashion with all guns blazing.
