I just upgraded to the Galaxy S24 Ultra from the S20 Note. I had always previously used Gboard as my default keyboard. Yet on the S24 Ultra, the Samsung Keyboard (which I don't like at all) keeps reappearing despite having set Gboard as my default keyboard. I then downloaded Swiftkey and same issue. Samsung Keyboard keeps reappearing despite having chosen Swiftkey as my default keyboard. I have already tried deleting cache of Samsung Keyboard as well as making sure I have most current version of Samsung Keyboard. I would delete the Samsung Keyboard in a nanosecond if I only could. I have wasted far too much time on this issue. I searched on line and found no solution despite many others having the same problem. Help!!!! Please advise, what am I supposed to do to get rid of the reoccurring Samsung Keyboard???
Could you also try > Clear Cache Files from the phone's System Partition Section > -devices/how-do-i-clear-the-cache-on-my-device/ You may need to insert your earphones or hook upto a powered On Laptop or use a Tv's USB Port to access the Clear Partition Section. This may help with lag or stutters as this clears the phone of old/unused or broken cache files. There is also a Repair Apps option in the Menu System too.
I also prefer Gboard to the Samsung keyboard, but I am having a problem where the keyboard doesn't appear for signing on apps, for messages etc. Yesterday I cleared the Gboard cache and it started working, but today the problem appeared again. I currently have the S24 ultra, but previously had a S23 and I didn't have this problem. With the S23 I used Swiftkey. As Android phone owners, we should be able to use the apps of our own choice and not have Samsung impair the use of other brand apps.
That's strange. I use Microsoft Swiftkey Keyboard, have it in Settings / General management / Keyboard list and default chosen as my default and never had any issues.
Could your problem be linked to your browser, is your browser perhaps wanting to 'see' a specific keyboard?
I'm just thinking out loud, I can't imagine if you have a specific keyboard chosen as your default keyboard, that the phone would override your choice.
The problem may just have to do with the cache. Each time I cleared the cache, the keyboard returned, but the most recent time this problem appeared, it happened the day after I cleared the cache. I don't use the keyboard a lot, probably less than the average user. It seems unreasonable that the default keyboard cache should have to be cleared every day or two.
I have a Samsung Galaxy A71 and this da*n problem just started in the last several days. It's infuriating! Apparently Samsung has made a bad mistake in a recent update. Hopefully they'll fix it. There's a reason the word "default" is used in the default keyboard choice setting, after all.
I'm not having this Samsung keyboard problem anymore, but I don't know what I might have done to fix it. Mostly all I was doing was reselecting GBoard as my default every time the S24 Ultra switched it to the Samsung keyboard. On a similar topic, I just got my S24 cameras to focus in 10x zoom mode though, by resetting the camera settings.
I used Gboard on my S21 before moving everything to my new S24+. Gboard is installed on the S24 but does not show up in the default keyboard selection list. The list only shows the Samsung keyboard. I tried uninstalling Gboard and re-installing but it still would not appear in the list. Am I missing something?
Issue:I various apps developed by Google, such as Gmail, Docs, Chrome, Chat, the Gboard keyboard is not appearing. Nor is the "globe" icon that should allow one to switch between keyboards. Instead, I'm left with only the basic keyboard.
I'm having the same issue and like you I've tried everything from reinstalling to trying different custom keyboards. Only the default keyboard and emoji keyboards work in the google apps like gmail, hangout, meet etc. I can't find a lot of people complaining about the issue online so I figured it might be because this is a company device and some permission is blocking it? The custom keyboards work in all other apps so gboard not working with google apps is just baffling.
The root cause of this issue ended up being related to a corporate MDM that's tied to the device. Luckily this app is approved by corporate. However, to resolve, I needed to uninstall the Gboard app I had downloaded from Apple's App Store. I then needed to re-install the app from my corporate's "App Catalog." After taking these steps the Gboard keyboard appears in all apps as expected.
Updated to Android 12 on a Pixel 5 - now current version is 5 Nov 2021 Security update
One Australian banking app (Suncorp App) always used to show the 1Password autofill option above the keyboard. The app does not require a username, just a password. Now, since the upgrade it almost never shows the autofill option. Once I loaded 1password then switched to the app and it then gave me the autofill option, but that has only ever worked once. The keyboard shows the numbers in the strip where I would normally see the autofill option.
I now went to use a website that shows the autofill strip above the keyboard and this works, i.e. I see the autofill strip above the keyboard, but no number strip. I then went back to the banking app and now it displays the autofill strip, not the number strip,
the native keyboard is unable to type profanities. what the fuck. Also, as soon as another keyboard is installed, the emote-button turns into a "choose keyboard"-long-press-button. Having to long-press and select is just such a little, unnecessary annoyance...
google keyboard works fine, the swiping works fine, it actually learns words, and even better, I can actually delete words from the dictionnary. great. I love the translation/search features, but the voice typing/dictation feature is incredibly buggy. Every time I press the microphone button, the keyboard settings open for a split second, then another screen opens for a split second, then I have a 50/50 chance of being able to say one sentence, if I want to say more, I have to go throgh the same loop again. With the last update to gboard being 1 year old I have no hope this will ever improve...
Also, with gboard I can't tap on a word I already typed and get word suggestions that make any sense. with swype, if I marked a word, it suggested alternative words that would have a similar swiping path. gboard initially shows these words too but if I tap on a word I already typed, it only shows suggestions that are either completely unrelated or are related to the word on a "language" level. Words that might fit the sentence. But these suggestions make no sense at all if one were to try to correct a wrongly recognized word...
I've been using the built in swipe typing on my iPhone more and more lately, and it continues to impress with how well it usually does. Haven't really felt the need to keep using a third party one, so I deleted them and don't regret it so far.
When typing texts on my Android phone the suggestion bar always shows 3 possible 'words'. Often the suggestions are good, but could be a lot better if the algorithm simply took in to account parts of speech, plural and other things from the previous words of a sentence. It is annoying to have to type many letters to get the plural form of a word to show, or to get the 'ion' form when the previous words practically demand that it be the only choice. Does the keyboard prediction include any of that? (Getting it to work for 100 languages, as Gboard is said to support, would be a lot of effort.)
A flaw is that inexplicably my keyboard suggests choices like 'se' and 'SE' a lot when I am just trying to type a word like 'set' for example. Why the stupid suggestions? Predictions are supposed to be based on previous usage, but I don't type non-words very often. This is another example of not predicting a sensible choice of next word.
So, my question is: does or could the algorithm actually interpret the previous words in a sentence at all when making suggestions? Does it depend on whether my phone has 'data' turned on or not? (Usually it is off.)
Many users use GBoard as their default keyboard. Gboard provides an Incognito mode. It would be great if while in the private browsing mode if Brave can activate the incognito mode of GBoard versus using the default mode.
Here is it not about changing the application. Gboard already has the capability of Incognito mode within it. Google Chrome uses this feature when one is browsing in Incognito mode, the keyboard also switches to the Incognito mode.
I use swype. I have tried floris board, swift key, anysoftkeyboard, etc.
Unfortunately, there is a significant difference between them and Gboard.
I am considering downloading Gboard from Aurora store and turning off all permissions (network, etc) so nothing can get back to Google.
Would like help me stay private or am I missing something?
I'm using the same setup (Gboard with no permissions) and it works flawlessly. I have 0 Bytes send (if the statistic is correct) and I don't think there is any way for them communicate. But I also don't have Play Services installed in the same user profile (this would be my only guess)
Just need to understand that if your Play Services have Network it is theoretically possible for GBoard to use IPC (inter process communication) to use it's network access. However this must be by mutual consent.
MetropleX Ok so I understoood correctly, the most private way to use Gboard is with Network permission OFF and without sandboxed Play Services as the two could communicate. I will just Gboard on a profile without Google Sandboxing stuff and I will be good to go.
spiral it can do, having tested GBoard myself there doesn't appear to be a real issue with IPC as every function in the settings appears to respect the Network permission state and reports back that it can't connect to Googles servers.
For those having issues, to get GBoard and Google Camera working, I had to ensure that I installed all the Google Play components from Apps first, THEN install GBoard and Google Camera. Once this was done, I removed the Google Play components once again. GBoard and Google Camera now continue to work. Doing it the other way around (GBoard first) resulted only in constant crashes.
