We are getting ready to head to San Francisco for our trip in the Dawn to Alaska. I am takinf some cigars and have put my lighter in my travel humidor to carry on with me...will Ihave a problem with this?

As an added note...a fueled lighter can be put into checked luggage if it is stored in an approved device such as a Colibri Transpack..Zippo makes one also. The rule also states a never fueled lighter can be placed in checked baggage as well...but alot of times they get confiscated anyways...plus you will still need to find someplace to buy fuel once you arrive at your destination, which could prove difficult. No lighters of any kind are permitted beyond the security screening point. This info is for air travel only, not the cruise ships.

Funny, my wife is a cigarette smoker and has always had them confiscated. She even had one that looked like a tube of lipstick once, eventually that one got confiscated too. To me, the DOT cases are ok for high-end cigar lighters, but just take up too much space relative to the lighter size. I'll do with a cheap lighter for an occasional cigar once I am onboard.

sometimes they take them sometimes they don't but the rule is no lighter or matches are allowed to be carried on a plane. They rarely confiscate them if checked appoved or not. Some countries are more vigilant than others. We have had them confiscated(actually all they say is throw them away)....and sometimes they just ignore them...

The Trip Screwup Agency now says you can bring a Zippo, Bic or similar lighters on a plane, just not one of those high flame pipe lighters. Don't you feel safe? Do you have to put them in a ziplock bag?

I have only had a lighter removed once from my purse or carry on. I have never had a lighter removed from my luggage. Hard to find/enforce I would suspect. Major airports have never taken a lighter, one very small regional airport 2 years ago found it and did take it. I have always volunteered a lighter if I realized I had one with me. It is the surprise when I change to an evening bag or such that I have found I had another lighter in a side zip or something similar.
