August/September 2024 - from Ireland to Alaska to Washington

Hello music friends!

After starting the month of August in Ireland, finishing up a festival of early Irish harp (pre-1900 style), Tania set off across the ocean once again.

Galway Days - Anchorage Alaska’s annual Celtic festival - was an epically soggy event this year, but under all the awnings, umbrellas and raincoats, a great time was had by sheltering “crowds” (small, but determined!) in Anchorage’s beautiful Town Square Park. Spectacularly authentic Irish weather for the event!

That was a couple of weeks ago, and Tania's solo adventures continue now in Washington State. This weekend in Richland Washington it’s time for Tumbleweed Music Festival, and this weekend in Richland the temperature is expected to reach 100ºF (38C). That’ll be a change from Anchorage where the temperature during the festival was 52ºF (11C)! Along with dozens of other performers, Tania will play and present workshops in Howard Amon Park, on the bank of the Columbia River. It’s a spectacular and diverse festival, not to be missed if you’re anywhere near the area. From 11am to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday there are six scheduled stages and an open-mic stage. All performances and workshops are free except for the Saturday evening benefit concert and the Sunday evening Contra Dance, which are ticketed events.

The next weekend, September 7-8, Port Townsend Washington hosts a great Wooden Boat Festival. It’s mostly about the vessels, and there is an admission charge for this event, but if wooden boats are your thing you won’t want to miss it. Once you’re in the festival, there’s a free music stage going all day, all weekend. The weather looks like it’s going to be the perfect medium between Anchorage and Richland. Phew.
