Hi folks,

I appreciate the feedback from those of you who are interested in the milongas, regarding their reasons for not attending the milongas most of the time. I am well aware that there can be many reasons not necessarily involving tango, like in my case (work, loved ones' health issues, etc). But given the feedback and requests from me personally at the milongas or practicas, I decided to convert the "MilongaVita @ VITA" to an "alternative milonga".
In order to call a social dance a "milonga" even when it is an "alternative" one, there will still be traditional tango/milonga/vals tandas played but the time devoted to traditional tandas will be significantly less than what it is at the "traditional milongas".

My experience and interaction with other national and international DJs paints the picture of an alternative milonga as:

50% of the time alternative music (music that can allow tango body language & communication and does not clearly belong to another dance genre, not salsa or swing music, for example)
40-50% of the time traditional music ("traditional" does not mean only golden era music!)
up to 10% of the time various music (depending on the milonga attendees/their interests, salsa, swing, blues, folk music)

I do not necessarily agree with some of the arguments that "alternative music" is for younger people and "traditional music" is for older generation and DJs who play traditional milonga music keep younger people away from tango.
I would recommend those to look at the history of tango and see if they could run into this argument there  and see how things evolved from the same point to a world of many young people dancing tango beautifully in different communities and countries all around. Even after 12 years of having social tango blooming and growing in the Triangle, our current community is a pretty young one with most of the dancers not being familiar with the world-class instructors and tango musicians who were the guests of 2 national tango festivals we had hosted in 2006 and 2007 (many people will meet my multiple-time guests Fernanda & Guillermo this fall for the first time when TT hosts them! I can't wait to have them back!).

So,  having seen the needs and expectations of "younger tango communities" (not necessarily composed of dancers who are young!) many times throughout my tango life, I decided to walk the walk, once again, with our current younger community with the hopes of having a fun growing experience altogether.

I would love to see you joining "MilongaVita @ VITA" in JULY (I will be out of the country in June). Please keep sending me your thoughts and requests and if necessary, we can even create a discussion platform under this group among the interested parties.

Enjoyable tango experiences to all,
