News from Cecilia: An upcoming event
Tango Meets Jazz, La Vuelta Tango Thursday 20 May @ The Brisbane Jazz Club
Come and experience La Vuelta Tango play original compositions, new arrangements and tango bangers. Featuring the smooth vocals of Solange Lipcin, experience the unique sound and driving rhythms of some of Brisbane's finest tango musicians including Lara Baker-Finch (violin), Camilla Tafra (cello), Lochlan Morrissey (bandoneón), Joel Woods (guitar), and Sophie Collis (contrabass).
The promo code is TANGOQUEENSLAND and this will get you in at member prices. This is a live listening and dance event which gets booked out quickly, so it is best to organise to book early.
The Brisbane Jazz Club will continue this event once a month if it continues to be successful and are encouraging people to become a member for a very reasonable fee as this is the last of the promo code. Being a member gives you up to $10 discount on all events at the Brisbane Jazz Club which is a not-for-profit organisation and run by many volunteers and a few paid staff.
Call Cecilia Walsh for any queries 0411750042. Doors open at 6.30pm.

This week’s Milongas
Thursday 13 May
Tales of Tango Cabaret performance, live band @ Brisbane Jazz Club
El Chamuyo is a project by Brisbane-based musicians Solange Lipcin (voice) and Lochlan Morrissey (piano and bandoneon) that explores Argentinian music, from the passionate tango – infused with the streetscape of Buenos Aires – to complex folkloric dances from the north of the country.
In this cabaret-style performance featuring guest Joel Woods (guitar), El Chamuyo will be celebrating the tango as song. This will capture the more intimate side of tango, through its language: through its poems of love and loss, of romance and revenge.
There are still a few seats left, but no promo code for this one. Doors open at 6.30pm and there will be a short documentary on the origin of tango in Argentina along with some historic footage of early tango from 1920’s onwards so come early to see, enjoy a meal and a drink. There will be room to dance on the deck although this is mainly a cabaret event about the stories of tango through the music. Please check the Brisbane Jazz Club website for details and bookings.
