hey Insiders!

so here's a wild experiment --

we're planning an unforgettable tango party on Saturday July 18th.
we have lovely dancer friends coming from faraway to Tango with us ALL NIGHT.
that's right all night! we will dance from 9:30pm til literally dawn: 7:30 in the morning!!
we have the most rock-solid Tango DJs in southern California spinning for the occasion:
DJ Lampis and DJ Sabah.
it's going to be unforgettable!

now as a community we have together already planted more than a THOUSAND trees through the Oxygen Milonga. wow, it moves me to imagine these trees, planted in Brazil as a symbol of our connected dancing each month.

for the Oxygen MARATHON, we have set a goal to plant 1200 trees in one single epic night.
I believe we can totally do this, but to do it we need you to be involved!
here's the deal, if everyone organizes a $25 donation to plant 25 trees, we'll hit our goal.
if you organize this donation, you'll get a discounted entrance to the milonga - just $15 for all night dancing! plus, you'll feel great about contributing to our shared community goal!

do you want to be a part of this? if you do here are the instructions! plan soon because we have limited space at the event. if you have friends who you want to be there, let them know asap!

1. REGISTER FOR THE MILONGA

Email o3t...@gmail.com. Include your name, whether you are a leader or follower, and your housing needs. And make your promise to make this event a success, by writing, in your own words:
“I pledge to raise a minimum donation of $25 to plant 25 trees.”

2. CALL THE NATURE CONSERVANCY

Call the Nature Conservancy to add your name to the program, and get the ball rolling with your own personal token tax-deductible donation (recommended $5.)

Dial 1-800-628-6860. Say “I am a Tango Dancer going to the Oxygen Tango Marathon,
reference #12001264. I would like to set up an account and make a donation.” Ask for your account number before you get off the phone! This way, we can track how much money you raise for trees through Tango! The Nature Conservancy is open from 5am-2pm PST/ 9am-5pm EST.

3. TELL YOUR FRIENDS

Tell your family, friends, and coworkers about this amazing Tango fundraiser!

If they want to support you, they can call the Nature Conservancy at 1-800-628-6860. They should say, “I would like to make a tribute donation to the Oxygen Tango Marathon, reference #12001264 in honor of [Your Name], account #[Your Account].” Or, if it’s easier, you can collect cash from them and make the call yourself!

Mitra's Comment: I already did this and it was ridiculously easy. I sent a single email to my Aunt Margie. I asker her if she would sponsor me for a Tango Dance-A-Thon. Explained that we have already planted more than 1000 trees through Tango through events like it, that the trees are being planted by the Nature Conservancy (I gave her a link to plantabillion.com). Told her she could donate directly to the Nature Conservancy or send me money and I would take care of the donation. She was tickled and offered to mail me a check right away! The whole email is below in case you want to model yours on this. :)

4. VOLUNTEER TO HELP

If you have floorspace and carspace and like putting coffee into people, you can offer to host our beautiful dancer friends from out of town, acquiring their undying gratitude and making new friends in the process!

If you have creative-decorative skills and big imagination, you can get involved in getting the space ready for the milonga. Shall we have a rain-forest theme, with leopard print umbrellas? Shall collect branches and palm fronds? Or ask everyone to weak something green?

If you have kitchen and yum-inducing skills you can help with creating the delicious snacks that will keep everyone alive and dancing all night!

And if you have the inkling that there may be an hour or so during the course of the ten-hour journey night when you may NOT be inclined ot dance, then you can sign up to welcome our friends to the milonga as part of a door shift!

ps. you can still come to the milonga if you don't organize your trees, but it's $25 then. so take a few minutes now to just get some dollars in motion for green trees!

dear Auntie M.
how are you? I'm doing so happily lately. thank you for the birthday wishes!

I wanted to ask you if you would like to sponsor me for a tango marathon.
since september we have been running an tango event called 'oxygen' and we plant one tree for every tango dancer who comes.
so far we've planted more than 1000 trees, with matching donations!
in july we're doing a big tango-a-thon with the goal of planting 1200 trees in one night.
we're going to be dancing literally all night- from 9:30 to 7:30 in the morning!!
it's an expression of the idea of tango as a force for good in the world, which is what I believe it to be. :)

the trees are planted through the Nature Conservancy, they are planting native species to reforest a Brazilian rain forest. from all I've been able to learn it's a great project.
here's more information about the event: http://www.tangomarvista.org/oxygenmarathon.html

so! if you want to support the cause of me dancing tango all night to plant trees, there are a couple of options: you can call the nature conservancy directly to make a tribute donation to the 'oxygen tango marathon', reference #12001264, in honor of me, mitra, account #12001126. it takes about 10 minutes. if you prefer you could also send cash and I can organize the donation. i'm aiming to raise $25 total and if each dancer can do that we'll hit our goal. it's modest, but a big deal for the tango community since it's the first time we're doing it. the nature conservancy # is 800-628-6860, and I think you hit 2 for donations.

we are just starting this project so if you have any feedback I would love to hear.

with love,
Mitra
