This article
will provide you with ideas on how to tame your "ego." How and why would you
want to tame your ego? Well, first of all I'm not talking about ego as in
'egotistical.' Although the two are related, I'm referring to ego as defined by
the dictionary entry below;
ego
NOUN:
1. The self, especially as
distinct from the world and other selves.
2. In psychoanalysis, the division
of the psyche that is conscious, most immediately controls thought and behavior,
and is most in touch with external reality.
Ready? Let's
begin.
Difficulty: Moderate
· Focus
· Self-Confidence
· Perseverance
1. Step 1
The "ego" is the you
that is physically conscious and separate from your soul. You are ultimately
your soul made of 100% light energy. That is the real you that eternally exists
above and beyond any physical incarnation.
The ego was created by you
when your soul decided to become physical. It allows your souls vibration to
come down low enough to be able to handle the density of the third dimension
experienced here on Earth. You cannot be in a physical state of existence and
not have an ego.
If someone brags to you that they have risen above
their ego through study, meditation, quasi guru
status etc...on this Earth plane they are not being truthful to you or
themselves because it is simply not possible.
Without the ego we
remain ungrounded. In
fact, it can take time even after physical death for
your soul to completely shed itself of the ego on the other side because the two
become so intertwined.
This is why you may hold on to residual energy
from past incarnations into your present life. The ego and soul attach to each
other very firmly in the physical and so it is sometimes hard to separate the
two but you can separate the two somewhat here in the physical by consciously
learning to
acknowledge which is which.
When you acknowledge
which is which you gain the ability to follow your souls true path and
intentions without having to deal with all the confusion surrounding it. This
gives you a clearer idea of how and what to do in nearly any situation.
This can further be defined as self guidance coming from the truest
source and purest energy. Instead of following a path littered with trash you
can forge ahead with your eyes closed and never stumble if you wish. Taming the
ego is simply clearing the clutter and defining the way.
For example, as
I began considering writing this article the first thing I 'heard' in my mind
was a series of negative phrases such as;
-'that has already been written
about and by much smarter people than you!'
-'who would even read it if
you did write it?
-'when will you have time to write it?'
-'you
need a college degree
to be published, why even bother?'
and so on and so
forth...
2. Step 2
When your Angels/Spirit Guides/Higher Self/Soul speak to you it is always on loving terms meant to guide you to do something that is perfectly aligned with your higher purpose. They will never use negative phrases or words to speak to you. The negative chatter I experienced in the example above was my ego challenging me to deny my higher purpose.
Bring it on I say!
Because if you can differentiate between the two you gain the power to
accomplish anything and I literally mean ANYTHING! How exciting is
that?
One method some have found useful in eliminating confusion is to
name the different aspects of the ego in order to more clearly recognize them.
For instance, the 'ego' that taunted me about my
article could be named
'Negative Nancy' or something along those lines. Use a name you will remember,
the more ridiculous the better because when you assign a name to the 'voice' you
are more likely to remember the energy that came along with it. This results in
being able to halt the negative thoughts before they can begin to flow the next
time you 'hear' it.
3. Step 3
In some cases just
confirming that it's a negative voice not coming from Spirit is enough to stop
it after you have practiced the naming/recognition technique and know what kind
of energy you're dealing with.
As we all know, many things bring out the
best and worst in people resulting in many visits from many aspects of your ego.
The ego can be both positive and negative. For instance, 'Negative Nancy' has a
flip side we could call 'Positive Paula.'
It is always our choice to
decide which egos we pay attention to. One of the ways we can shut out Negative
Nancy to give Positive Paula a word in edgewise is to simply say 'CANCEL CANCEL
CANCEL!' I say this to myself a lot along with 'DELETE DELETE DELETE' or
'RESET!' Doing this will immediately stop the bad energy and put your focus
somewhere else.
Even if your focus simply moves on to the next negative
thought you have at least stopped the first one successfully.
It is a
conscious way to better maintain the integrity of our thoughts.
With
thought comes experience and so it's obvious that if we can change what we think
we will inevitably change our lives into something more
