Special WorkShops, January 9th: By Tango Al Dente :
Although we will not be teaching regular classes again until February,
don't miss out on this great opportunity to polish your tango in
January when Ariel and I will offer the following workshops:
WHEN: Saturday, January 9, 2010
LOCATION : to be announced, (probably at the Empire Grange in Fort
Collins).
12:15 to 1:45 pm Milonguero -The Basics. Milonguero is most closely
associated with "close embrace" style of tango that emphasizes small
rhythmic steps suitable for the crowded dance floor. This is a
review course that will cover the following essential vocabulary and
concepts: walking in parallel and cross systems; la cruzada (the
cross); the embrace and apilado (forward lean); walking ochos; the
ocho cortado, both linear and circular; and the Media Luna turn to the
left. Recommended for beginning dancers, but is also great for those
who have been away for while and want to get back into the dance.
2:00 to 3:30 pm.
Tango Salon 101. Salon style tango, sometimes categorized with what
is referred to as "nuevo tango," incorporates a dynamic embrace that
accommodates both open and close styles of the dance. It tends to be
more athletic with longer, bigger steps that may incorporate elements
such as sacadas, boleos, and ganchos. This class is for students
already familiar with the basic concepts of Milonguero. We will cover
the salida basica (8 count basic); the molinete; over pivoting ochos,
both back and front; close to open transitions; the sacada; and the
pasada. Recommended for advanced beginner and intermediate dancers
3:45 to 5:00 pm.
Close Embrace Ganchos. For those of you who are ambitious or simply
ready for a challenge, this class you will teach you how to integrate
ganchos into your dance in a way that is fluid, musical and dynamic.
It is recommended for intermediate and advanced dancers.
