I installed Talkonaut (dedicated client) but it doesn't connect to the server, it says downloading 0.0 kb/s. I tried IM+ and set up my user info, but that too does not connect at all. I tried Fring but this app says can't connect to Fring servers (so I assume it somehow is a closed platform itself that is no longer active). I also tried two Java J2ME apps, Bombus and Lampiro. Both of those don't connect to my account either.
I can confirm my phone has an active Wifi and I can browse the web successfully, so I don't know what the problem is. I suspected the chat server could have a problem with these clients so I created a new account on another XMPP server, that too failed to work.
You may remember that the VoIP application fring had its back-end upgraded a couple of months ago to enable new features on iOS and Android handsets? Symbian users have been left out in the cold since then, unable to communicate with their brethren on other platforms, but the wait is over and fring on Symbian sees a massive jump from v4.5.18 to v7.1.23.
Telephone number mapping is the process of unifying the telephone number system of the public switched telephone network with the Internet addressing and identification name spaces. Telephone numbers are systematically organized in the E.164 standard, while the Internet uses the Domain Name System for linking domain names to IP addresses and other resource information. Telephone number mapping systems provide facilities to determine applicable Internet communications servers responsible for servicing a given telephone number by simple lookups in the Domain Name System.
Microsoft eventually moved the service from a peer-to-peer to a central server based system, and with it adjusted the user interfaces of apps to make text-based messaging more prominent than voice calling. Skype for Windows,[47] iOS,[48] Android,[49] Mac[50] and Linux[51] all received significant visual overhauls at this time.
Skype was previously available on Java mobiles,[101] Nokia X, Symbian, BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10 devices. In May 2009 a Version 3.0 was available on Windows Mobile 5 to 6.1, and in September 2015 a Version 2.29[102] was available on Windows Phone 8.1; in 2016 Microsoft announced that this would stop working in early 2017 once Skype's transition from peer-to-peer to client-server was complete.[103]
On 20 June 2014, Microsoft announced the deprecation of the old Skype protocol. Within several months from this date, in order to continue using Skype services, Skype users will have to update to Skype applications released in 2014. The new Skype protocol, Microsoft Notification Protocol 24, was released. The deprecation became effective in the second week of August 2014. Transferred files are now saved on central servers.
In October 2008, it was reported that TOM had been saving the full message contents of some Skype text conversations on its servers, apparently focusing on conversations containing political issues such as Tibet, Falun Gong, Taiwan independence, and the Chinese Communist Party. The saved messages contain personally identifiable information about the message senders and recipients, including IP addresses, usernames, landline phone numbers, and the entire content of the text messages, including the time and date of each message. Information about Skype users outside China who were communicating with a TOM-Skype user was also saved. A server misconfiguration made these log files accessible to the public for a time.[173][175][176]

(2) you didnt talk about the adobe flash support in e6. i know that youtube videos are playable on e6 but i wanna know whether videos from other sites are also playable?
hey Nitish,
I must tell u that the review was quite good.
I m planning to nokia e5, but it is already 2 yrs old since its launch, i need a qwerty with wats app functionality and email is necessary. budget 10k.
Plz advice.
i have also nokia E6.00. When i upgrade this software symbian anna to symbian bella.its camra is not working and its snape is very dull. Its net speed is also very slow in 3g network And 2g.nokia is very bad company because if u purchase a costly mobile and if this not working in gurrantee then u purchase another mobile because nokia care take 10-15 days to repair it. So i am very upset to purchase nokia set.
Starting with VoIP Release 2.0, Nokia released a tool called SIP VoIP Settings Tool which allows advanced tweaking of many VoIP parameters.
Of particular importance is the ability to set a STUN server and define NAT firewall traversal parameters. This is crucial for the proper use of the phone behind a NAT firewall or when using a non-routable IP.
The STUN server is set on a per asterisk server basis and the NAT traversal parameters are set on a per access point basis.
Agreed on having a PSTN failover is a valuable feature. However, I was thinking a base-station that included an Asterisk-addressable FXO port would make for a very neat system. Build your Asterisk server on a fit PC 2 ( -pc2.com/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page), then since the base-station offers an FXO port, no Digium hardware required for faxing/failover etc.
Our own experience with these phones has been really fine. We have two sets of S685IP (3 handset systems) connected to 2 asterisk servers and have not had any issues of note at all in nearly 2 years of use.
I've found a Skype Java (.JAR) same file version which I have also installed on my Nokia 9300i and downloaded and tried this one as well. Guess what it works ? It is not supporting Outgoing Skype users video clients, and it supports incoming Skype Video calls only with pre-purchased Skype call minutes, but Skype messaging works. I've made mirror of nokiaN95.jar Nokia N95 Java skype program here. I was lazy to research further if there is some other software or Skype.com symbian old version mirrored somewhere on the net working with the N95, but I guess it is possible. If someone reading this post knows a better Skype binary supporting Skype Video and Voice please drop a comment how ? Other way to use skype without loosing time to install Skype client is web Skype service.
The biggest tip I have though, get the Map Loader software off either the smart2go website or the nokia website and then load up GPS maps that way. By doing this is prevents the phone from constantly using your network connection to get the maps for your area. This saves battery life and your data charges. Only problem is, its PC only, so OSX users will have to fire up parallels or Boot Camp (Alternatively, I brought my old Vaio out of retirement temporarily).
6th: I used the email client on the s60 3rd edition devices made by nokia and to be honest, if I need to send an email, i will always use a pc connected to a fast internet connection first before using a mobile device. simply put, if i need to send an email on a mobile device, i would rather make the voice phone call to that person first. it would be faster and possibly cheapier than sending it over a traditional gsm (EGPRS / GPRS connection). Though GMAIL client available from GOOGLE works nicely on the s60 3rd edition and using the gmail account via the web works just as nice. ?
I use my test device every single day during the testing phases (usually 3 to 6 months) and the battery life, using the suggested steps above will improve your opionion on any nokia s60 device as well as make you a bit happier that you made a sound decsion to purchase a Nokia device.
hello to nokia lovers,
i have seen and heard, but also read alot about the nokia n95 but i would really like to get my hand on one for my next web blog.i have been fascinated with this multitasking device.any way i can get one for my reviews?greetings from orlando!!
Regarding battery life, again, if you are spending the whole day playing with the phone,, battery life is going to short and you would need repeated chargings. For your information, If at all nokia is known for anything,,its the awesome battery the produce. lets not forget its not a PDA. Rather carrying batteries carry a CHARGER.
1. FaceTime. When you first start FaceTime, it sends an SMS (text message) to an Apple server. The SMS contains sufficient information for the Apple server to reliably associate your phone number with the XMPP (push services) client running on your iPhone. With this authentication performed, anybody else who has your phone number in their address book on their iPhone or Mac can place a videophone call to you via FaceTime.
E-mail
- Nokia Messaging, Push Email Client, supports POP and IMAP (currently free in beta)
- Gmail (Java)
- Emoze, Free IMAP push client. Supports Gmail and integrates nicely into UI. Also can check on a schedule (e.g. 15 minutes) to save battery/data.
- ProfiMail, ProfiMail is a powerful e-mail client for mobile devices, that supports HTML.
- Mail for Exchange for those using Microsoft Exhange as your email server
- Ovi Mail Beta is a new Nokia beta labs application that is still undergoing beta testing. It is currently a free app and includes an Ovi mail account.
I have also created internet telephony accounts on the FritzBox, going in the other direction, so that it signs in to the 3CX server, as if 3CX is an external SIP provider. I have one of these set up for each extension I use on the Fritz, so four in total (entry phone, analogue phone, plus two ISDN lines).
