Its a utter shame that we catholic mangaloreans are ashamed of speaking our own mother tongue-Konkani. Something should be done to promote our sweet language or else within the next 40-50 years, konkani will be out from the era.
After reading the write upof Peter Gonsalves, my memory goes back to my young days.At that time I was a Altar boy at St.Josephs seminary, Jeppu. For ordination ceremony and other functions Mr. Peter used to come to click photos. At that time the photographers used to bring cameras with flash bulb ande afterwards throw them.We used to collect them just for fun. Some times I along with other alter boys requesting him to click our photos. And he was clicking our photos many a times just to please us. But afterwards we came to know that he was using the used bulbs to take our photos as they will only flash and no picture will come by this. What a joke and fun.He was a very jovial person at that time and a best photographer.Afterwards many photographers like Jos Studio (Joseph and Rony both brothers) Studio balco have come to limelight.Anyway I am glad to knoow that he is still there living with his children and grand children.I wish him all the best.
Thank you Daiji World for this beautiful article on Uncle Peter & Thisri Cheet Movie. My dad Wilfred D'souza (Uppi Ruzai) acted in this movie, so this Movie holds a special place in my heart. Would love to have a copy of the movie if anybody can find it.
I watched Tisri Cheet when it was released. The heroine Hilda DSouza, was my neighbor. Hilda is siter of Late Elias Rebello. She resides in Derebail. Great write up Florine. Hilda bai might have some pictures or memories of Tisri Cheet.
Indeed I get to hear about 'Tisri Cheet'. My mom Agnes Rebello (Hilda D'Souza) had acted in this movie in a leading role and was narrating to me as to how she got in the movie. I gotto know the story of 'Tisri Cheet' as well. My dad also had tried everywhere to atleast get a print of it,but in vain cud not.. Wish I could get to see my mom acting in a movie. Hats off to you Peter uncle.May God bless you with good health. Wonderful article Florine Roche.

Brought back the old memories of our childhood spent together.

It was a great write up and nice to see Uncle Peter a unsung hero of yesteryears. We a lucky few were taken by the Cascia Church as Alter boys to see the movie at Prabat Theatre.Doing our growing years we were a lucky few who would be sitting around to listen to uncle's stories every day, and have a lot of good fond memories.
Our salute to you this day Brave-heart and all your Kids who are close to me to date .
Thanks Florine for your Article that was so touching .Keep up the good work and thanks Daiji for publishing our Konkani Pillars .
Yes dear Mr.Flavion baab
Our old house was there till 1970,after which the present building housing shops like Konkan Traders, Milagres Stores etc. was constructed. Thanks for your kind message.,and Regards
I had heard about Peter's stint at producing a konkani movie but did not have the details. Indeed it is a heart rending episode of A UNSUNG HERO.
As an individual, Peter is kind, warm hearted person with a sense of humour. I have know him for some decades but did not have his historical background.
Peter has been my fellow-sodalist at The Sodality of Immaculate Conception Blessed Virgin Mary and presently his absence is greatly felt at meetings.
Peter has of course left behind wonderful children to keep up his tradition. He used to term his son as PETERSON. Meaning Peter's son. Samson indeed is doing a fine job. The pictures which he clicked of our Diamond wedding are very much appreciated in India and U.S.A.
Peter may have retired from work but he is still remembered with affection by all those he came in contact with.
Joe Gonsalves
You have done a great job by bringing this name to the notice of many. A Nice article, there are many unsung hero's and heroines yet to be discovered. Keep it up Florine. I wish this unsung hero good, healthy & peaceful life.
First all thanks to Daji for the news. Peter gonsalves we know you from our child since we belong to same Parish St. Rita Cascia. Few years even though he was not well and some eye sight problems he use take active participate in the holy mass from beginning to end singing, reading word of god, offetry collection, preparing the alter for mass etc. His son Samson is also like his father has become famous photographer in Mangalore. At That time "time was tough with no much facilities, even though he has done his very best for the konkani society and to all man kind.
My heart goes out for him.
What a transformation from childhood to young man to old age!
He used to be the famous photographer alongside with Sons Studio in Light house hill road, Hampankatta. Also, I had noticed that he used to be very active in his movements (though limping) and always with good humour & laughter with fellow friends .
I hope his children are doing well. God grant him strength to overcome physical ailments if any.
For all the effort that one to put forth towards Konkani and strengthen her heritage, Florine Roche has well and truly sketched a great article of this Great unsung hero.
I hold him in high esteem and the rest of his family for having braved all, that life threw at them whilst this movie was made.
Its great to see Laveena/Henry, Nelson, Pattu , Elvi ,in that picture !
Samson - Wishing you success !
In the year 2006 a life changing event took place in my life. Together with my family, I decided to immigrate to the distant North American State of Canada. Due to initial settling down struggles in a new country of adoption, I was compelled to neglect many of my passions including Do..Re..Me..Fa..! As a result I was unable to present any music stars during the past four years and I deem these years are the Eclipse years in Do..Re..Me..Fa.. history.
As I was going through these Eclipse years, in 2011 as a wake-up call I received incredible news that I could ever dream of! I reached on seventh heaven when I got the news that my very first book "Do..Re..Me..Fa.. Volke Groth - Poilo Bhag" that was published by Raknno Prakashan in 2006, had won the prestigious "Dr. T.M.A. Pai Konkani Book Appreciation Award". Although I was unable to make it for the Award Ceremony that was held in Manipal, Dr.Jerry Niddodi received this award on my behalf. It's truly a great honour & recognition for Konkani Music!
As an editor, it is my prime duty to thank Almighty God for giving me this great opportunity and privilege to introduce His chosen ones, whom he has blessed with great talent of music. I thank our Blessed Virgin Mother Mary for her constant intercession and blessings. I must thank in a big way, the power behind this web portal Walter Nandalike, for the initiation and great support. In a very special way I thank my dear friend and my mentor Robert Pereira and my literary guru Clarence Pinto Kaikamba for their unassuming help and incredible support throughout my Do..Re..Me..Fa.. journey.
I have no words left to thank the highly talented journalist Florine Roche for joining me in my music journey in presenting you the most melodious musical chords. Being in Mangalore, she would represent me in meeting the music stars personally to get the necessary information, face-to-face interviews and preparing their profiles.

Dear Gerry Sir, I was missing your article since a very long time.. and always wondered about it getting disappeared.. Welcome back.. We are in deed very happy to read you again.. Meena Aunty... you are just SUPERB. All the best and god Bless
Rarest gem among our midst, Queen of All Melodies, Standing tall despite every odds, we Salute You Meena Bai and Wishing every success for 250th Wilfy Nites. Hi Jerry, Wising you every success in your endeavors.
Superb article Gerry. We thank our Lord for giving angles like you and Meena for our Konkani world. From my own experience I know very well your great sacrifice of your life for Konkan lovers. God bless you and Meena with good health and cheerfulness today and always. Michael Serrao
I was the lucky one and it was my privilege to know, watch and listen to Meena from close quarters. As a singer she is second to none. Her voice is as steady, clear and sweet as it was when she started singing. The song Disco Disco (vol-2)or song Andkaar muje bhovthi from just released CD tells it. She can sing any type of song: light, semicalssical, devotional, sad, romantic, vampy, comic, fast, slow with the same ease. Just to name few Aayaa Mest (V-3) Ye Pishyaa, Mogaacho Petlo Uzo (V-7) Mujim ChiMtnaa(V-6) Maim Muje Maim (V-8) Daldir Soro, Vachon etaa Kulaaraa (V-10)endless list of memorable songs.I was fortunate to sit with Meena and Wilfy in the quiet of the late nights and listen and enjoy both of them just singing old and new songs many many times. She not only sang Wilfy's songs, but it was her unconditional love, unwavering support even in adverse conditions which helped Wilfy achieve greatness as an Artist. Meena always looked after all the members of Wilfy's troupe as a loving mother, sister. She continues to do that till now, and I do hope and pray may God bless her with peace and health, may she continue singing for many more years.Thank you Meenabai for the songs, love and affection. Thank you Gerry and daijiworld for the article.
