Well everything nowadays needs an active presence online, even more so with a Hackerspace (even more so with a fledgling space). You can sell the idea of a space more readily if you have a nice looking address, it shows you're committed =)
I have bought
http://tamworthhackerspace.org and plan to acquire hosting soon (I'm actually looking for hosting for myself and when I do find the right plan I'll be hosting
tamworthhackerspace.org there initially). It will hopefully have a SSL certificate, MediaWiki install, blog and forums.
I'm considering going with a 36 month GoDaddy Ultimate 4th Generation Hosting plan -
http://www.godaddy.com/hosting/web-hosting.aspx, I initially was thinking of going with a Business Hong Kong server from
ICDSoft.com but they don't allow add-on domains and as such would cost even more, because I want to host my domains as well as get
tamworthhackerspace.org established (however they seem to be pretty good hosts).
If you have any suggestions better than my current plans please let me know.
