OK...let the stories begin. What is your impression of IE 4.0? How
has it acted? What's good/bad about it?

I am very impressed with IE4. I like the virtual desktop the best
probably. Although a nuiscance at first, it proves to be a valuble
companion if used correctly. Right now, I have the java clock and the
MSNBC personal page on my desktop. It's great waking up to fresh news how
I want it. As for the actual browser's features, those are a step in the
right direction also. With the interactive music control, music while
switching web pages is seamless, and changes to reflect the 'mood' of the
page. Basically, it's what you can't see that makes the browser. It seems
to perform better than before in terms of speed. And about Outlook
Express, well, I don't have Office 97 yet, but I hear Outlook is in that.
I'm using Express now, and I must say it is ingenious. It blows the socks
off Netscape
's, Eudora, WinVN (for news), and most everything else I've seen. My
favorite feature is the ability to send email in rich text (HTML) form.
The new toolbars, java applets all over the place, and favorites folder in
the Start menu all enhance the Win96 desktop and interface to give it a
much-needed Internet integration.

Shortcomings:
It was a little long to install...
Had some initial errors with system at first...
Some java scripts fail when trying out their new technologies on their own
demo page...
Extra toolbars on 'Start' toolbar a little annoying...
Requires frequent trips on-line for updates, etc...

That's about it. Overall, I think Microsoft has finally developed a
superior browser to Netscape, for now. IE4 blows the socks off
Communicator, but I'm sure this war isn't over yet...

Just as a note, a Microsoft spokesperson has said that s/he would NOT
install this current (Preview) release on a production system. That is
to say, you're taking your chances if you install this release.

Remember, this is pre-Beta. It might be just fine, but it might
wreak havok.

Very true, be sure to back up your system files extensively. I already had
an initial crash, although that was mostly my fault, IE4 had something to
do with it. There are extensive warnings on Microsoft's IE4 site. Take
them to heart!

Quick, quarantine this one, before he spreads more spores and new seed
pods start to sprout! There's no hope for him, but, but, think of the
children!!

The horror!...the horror!...
