HUMAN RESOURCES
An employee must work or be in a paid leave status for any portion of the scheduled workday before a holiday and any portion of the scheduled workday after a holiday to be eligible for holiday pay. A specific exception for the winter break stipulates that an employee will be paid for the designated December holidays if s/he is in a paid status or working for any portion of the last scheduled workday before the holiday period begins. The employee will be paid for a designated January 1 holiday if s/he returns to work (or is in a paid leave status) for a portion of the next scheduled work day following the holiday. A “portion” of a scheduled work day, for holiday pay eligibility purposes, is defined to be at least 15 minutes. As the Winter break holiday is upon us, now is a great time to remind employees of holiday leave information available at http://employees.tamu.edu/benefits/leave/holidays/ on the HR website.

Bona Fide Offer of Employment (BOE) Reminder A BOE is part of the university’s Early Return to Work Program, which assists an employee to return to work safely with a temporary work assignment in accordance with their physician’s recommended work restrictions. The program includes employees who have sustained injuries or illnesses on or off the job. Additional BOE information, including a new non-work related injury form, may be viewed here. Employees who return to work under restrictions or a reduced work schedule must sign a BOE before he or she begins work. Upon completion, the BOE should be submitted to HR Benefit Services. If you have questions, please contact Benefit Services at bene...@tamu.edu or (979) 862-1718.
payroll services
Please share this information with employees in your department. The Biweekly and Monthly payday of January 1, 2016 will be moved to Monday, January 4, 2016. This is due to January 1, 2016 being both a Federal Reserve and University holiday.
If an employee terminates from Texas A&M University and rehires in the same or different department on or after September 1, 2015, a new I-9 will need to be created in Guardian due to the E-Verify requirements. A Section 3 rehire will not initiate E-Verify. Starting September 1, a Section 3 rehire will only be used for employees that have already been E-Verified.
As the semester winds down and the holidays approach, many employees may travel to far-off places, or to see family and friends. This is a great time to remind individuals of the resource document “Guide to Using Your Benefits While Traveling”. We recommend employees print this document to keep on hand while traveling just in case they experience problems. More information on employee benefits packages are at http://employees.tamu.edu/benefits/general/ online.
