I have an Apple SuperDrive hooked up to my MacBook Pro through a functioning USB port (I specify "functioning," because of course with a MacBook Pro you can't always assume any particular USB port is working). When I try to burn a CD-R using Music, I get a "Disc burner or software not found" error. Usually, if I keep trying every so often throughout the day, at some point the software will be detected for a few minutes and I'll be able to burn a CD or two before the error recurs. Has anyone found a fix for this?
If the problem of USB ports being shut down unpredictably on MacBooks has been fixed, then please direct me to the solution. I've found discussions of the problem (on this very website) from as long ago as 2011, and as recent as 2021, so I think it's fair to characterize this bug as both "outstanding" and "unresolved."
I don't know. An Apple SuperDrive is supposed to be (and always has been, in my experience) plug-and-play with a Mac computer, so I guess I'm using whatever driver/software is native to my MacBook Pro. (I've been using this burner without any problem until recently.)
FWIW, I have owned 3 different MBP's from 2010 - 2021 (currently an MBA) and have not had a single problem with a USB port, but I have always used self-powered accessories (burner and external hard drives) because I did not want to stress the ports/power.

DVD and blu ray 'M' disks Can be burned on Macs with external burner/players. I am using an LG BE14NU40 several years now to burn 'M' disks -both DVDs and Blu-Ray. I'm on Big Sur OS. I rip DVD movies with a simple app called 'RipIt' which seems to work around restrictions to copying films that commercial software like Toast has making copying impossible. Unfortunately, RipIt does not copy Blu RAY disks. There are apps that do though. Once you have a file -data, movie, or music, it can be burned with any 'M' disk burner and accessed. DVD Movies open and play with the regular Apple DVD player. Apple does not supply Blu Ray movie player app so a third party software player is required. I have played Blu-Ray movies before so I know it works.

I don't know what am I doing wrong, or how is this possible, but I took time how long it took to erase my 2x 4.7GB DVD-RW disc and write the latest testing Dual Core iso of Archlinux with both ImgBurn and Windows' own Disc Burner and found out that ImgBurn did this in 8:18 (mins:secs), while Windows' own decided to take only 6:46.
I even re-wrote(/erased) the disc two times with both burners - results were still the same. No anti-viruses, no old firmwares, no nothing. My system is a up-to-date Win 7 (SP1) with the latest version of ImgBurn (2.5.6.0).
