Story of an Indian American Captain of US Army from the Afghan war

Guest Speaker: Rajiv Srinivasan, of Roanoke, VA, is a Captain in the U.S. Army.

He was deployed as a Stryker platoon leader in Attack Company, 2-1 Infantry in the Taliban hotbed of Zhari, Kandahar from 2009-2010. There, Rajiv and his platoon were tasked with building a combat outpost with the Afghan National Army and being the first American maneuver force to conduct combat patrols in Zhari District. He was awarded a Bronze Star and the Combat Action Badge for leadership under fire. Rajiv is a frequent contributor to the New York Times and PBS's Regarding War series commenting on military and veteran affairs. He is a 2008 Graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point where he graduated in the top 5% of his class majoring in Comparative Politics & Arabic. He is currently a Ph.D candidate at Kings College London specializing in Counterinsurgency. His essay, "My Battle Within: The Identity Crisis Of A Hindu Soldier In The US Army," was a winner in HAF's 2009 NextGen Essay Contest.

Mihir Meghani, M.D., an Emergency Physician, is a co-founder of HAF. Dr. Meghani focuses on capacity building, strategic relationship development, and fundraising at the Foundation. A relative of Mahatma Gandhi, he continued Gandhi's tradition of service by providing medical care in India after the 2001 earthquake, in NY after 9/11, and in Sri Lanka after the 2004 tsunami with The Permanente Medical Group. A member of the US Department of Homeland Security's Disaster Medical Assistance Team and former member of the East Bay Regional Parks Advisory Committee, Dr. Meghani has received numerous awards for his community service.

All are welcome to join! Attendance is free.

Nikhil Joshi, Esq., a labor and employment attorney and partner at a Florida based law firm, is Chairman of the Board and a co-founder of HAF and holds a JD from the University of Florida. His efforts for the Foundation have largely centered on administrative, legal and operational matters.
