Fijian Hindus have been affected by devastating floods about two weeks ago.

Thousands of Hindus have been affected by the devastation and most of them
have lost everything and a large number of Hindus have been affected with water
related disease and are in badly need of relief.

VHP of America is working with Shri Jai Dayal Ji of Fiji who is the President of
VHP Fiji directly and has requested Hindus of America to help them to raise
$75,000 to help the Fijian Hindus. The funds are needed for medical, education
and goods for day to day living. VHP of America has issued an appeal to raise
the funds to help the victims.

Following is the appeal from VHP of America requesting all Hindus and Indians to donate
funds to help our brothers and sisters in the Island of Fiji. Please visit VHP of America

Re: Relief Funds for the Victims ofFijiFloods

A 15-day state of disaster is currently in effect on the west coast ofFijithat has been ravaged by floods since January 22. Twenty one active evacuation centers have been set up with a total of 1,333 evacuees. The state of disaster, declared on January 25 by Colonel Inia Seruiratu, applies to Ba, Lautoka, Nadi, Nadroga, Ra, and Tavua. In a 48-hour period, 400 millimeters of rainfall was recorded in Nadi, which triggered flooding across the west ofViti Levu. Severe flooding and landslides have forced thousands from their homes to seek safety in evacuation centers, reported Red Cross. Crops had been washed away; homes, shops, and roads damaged; and communities left with no water or power supply, said the IFRC. There have been reported cases of water-related diseases, including diarrhea and typhoid, as a result of the floods. The damage caused is estimated to be about $30 million.
