Tomorrow at the Pinellas Park Library we will look at making a robot move forward autonomously 48 inches, looking for +/- 2 inches, using encoders but no PID controllers. Can we hit this accuracy repeatedly without a PID controller?
This robot is the basic drive frame for the 2013 FRC competition. It's powered by a 12V motorcycle battery and has quite a bit of gitty-up.
The plan is to go full power to a point indicated by the encoders, then short the motors to brake the robot to a quick stop. This robot can probably go about 10 ft/sec.
If this doesn't work, then maybe we can try slowing down near the end and then stopping with two different threshold points and two different power levels.
This robot is programmed in Python using the UI that I demoed in April.
Hope to see you there!
