For anyone who's interested (and uses
Slack, the chat/collaboration app), there's a Slack group called "The Spatial Community" that's open for anyone to request an invite to.
If you've never used Slack before, it's an easy way to have multi-user chat rooms that are channel based — I already created a #tbgis channel in the Spatial Community Slack account, so anyone can join in. The community on there is mostly developers, GIS analysts, and mapping enthusiasts.
Related to our discussion at the meeting today about "how-tos" or a place to have conversation about challenges or projects, this venue is a great way to have off-the-cuff realtime conversation without having to wait for in-person meetings. There are also a ton of other channels there to pose questions on all sorts of topics: #python, #openstreetmap, #geoprocessing, #analysis, and more.
