Hi everyone,
I'm looking forward to seeing anyone that wants to join in over the next few days. Anyone is welcome at any time. I know some of you that have already confirmed your attendance have some scheduling conflicts and will be in and out at various times, no problem, I'll keep everyone that has confirmed to date informed if the itinerary has any changes. If you want to meet up with the group to join in at any random time over the three day adventure please reach out to me via text at
813-508-8522 and if I have cell phone service I will let you know our specific location. You can also call but be aware that I don't answer unknown numbers and you can leave a message for me to respond to if I don't answer your call.
Speaking of the flexible itinerary: I have been keeping an eye on the weather forecast and have now made my decision regarding the general order of things. We will not start out on the water tomorrow as originally planned due to the forecast of scattered thunderstorms throughout the first half of the day. Tuesday's forecast looks much better for being on the water so that will be our plan. For those that don't have a kayak or canoe they are available to rent at our starting location that day.
Day one (tomorrow): We will meet in Hernando County at the Chassahowitzka WMA parking lot at 10:00 in the morning, on the west side of Commercial way, just north of Centralia Rd. (There is no street address, see the attached map screenshot.) There is a small entry fee, bring some dollar bills to feed the iron ranger. Also bring food and drinks for snacks and a picnic lunch. The 10:00 start should allow time for folks to stop at a grocery store or Subway, etc on the way if necessary. We will visit some locations where you can get in the water if you want so bring some swimming attire if you are so inclined. Some of the photographic exercises we will focus on will be time lapse of cloud formations, long exposure landscapes, intentional camera motion, and more. Be certain to bring your ND filters. If you have a drone this is a great place to fly it! Later in the afternoon we will return to town so that we can check in to accommodations and freshen up for dinner. Anyone who has confirmed attendance as of today that is not lodging there but wants to freshen up, change clothes, etc before dinner and the evening photography session is welcome to use my room to do so if necessary. We will go out for a restaurant dinner in time to finish eating and get to a location for sunset and maybe some evening lightning photos. I will provide walkie-talkie radios that we can use during the day to communicate car to car as we travel around to multiple locations.
Day two (Tuesday) The weather forecast looks good for being on the river. We will meet at 9:30 at the Chassahowitzka River Boat Launch. (Access via W Miss Maggie Dr from US 19, see attached map screenshot.) Kayak and canoe rentals are available there. Our focus will be on waterborne photos of the river and surrounding landscape, underwater photography/videography in the river and in multiple spring locations. Be prepared to get out of your boat and into the water (wading and/or swimming). FYI, we are going to some different locations than last year. Bring snacks and drinks to have while we are out during the day. I have a couple of action cameras to spare if someone wants to borrow. I will also try to find a couple of my waterproof bags for cell phones to bring along that can be used for underwater photography if you don't already have such a thing for your phone. In the afternoon when we leave the water we will return to our lodging and those who wish can freshen up there (same offer applies to using my room if necessary.) We will spend time during the afternoon in the hotel editing and I will be available in instructor mode to help and teach. Again we will go to a restaurant for dinner and follow that with a sunset shoot and more evening/lightning photography if the weather accommodates.
Day three (Wednesday) After breakfast and checking out from lodging anyone who is interested is welcome to go with me to the Aripeka Sandhills Preserve for more photography/videography. The hills can provide some interesting foregrounds for cloud timelapse photography, it's another good place to fly a drone, and it's a really good place for underwater shooting in crystal clear water.
Reach out to me if you need any additional information. I'm excited about getting out with folks for a few days of fun and photography!
