I have OneDrive folder at default: C:\Users\MyUsername\OneDriveI want to move OneDrive to C:\OneDrive. So I select OneDrive Settings - Unlink PC, then log in to my OneDrive account again and chose C as the folder location. I got the message "Your OneDrive folder can't be created in the location you selected".

A strange observationAfter I unlink PC from my OneDrive and closed the app, I reopened it. OneDrive logs into a particular user automatically. This user is NOT the user that I last logged in with, but the user before that. And the folder location is back to C:\Users\MyUsername\OneDrive, not D:\OneDrive like for the previous user.

I recently created a folder on my OneDrive account with Word Documents that i had saved in the folder. Upon trying to locate the folder in my OneDrive, the folders that i had just created, never showed up again. It was really strange, because i was sure that i had created the folders and i was not losing my memory. Then i thought that it might not be showing in my File Explorer/ OneDrive if I still had the Word Document open so i closed the word document and then opened my OneDrive in my file explorer and I still couldn't find the folder that i had just created. After about 10 minutes, i opened the Word program once again and then located the file under,"Recent Documents", then right clicked the file that i had recently created and selected "Open File Location". When i did that, it indeed showed that the file location that i had just created did exist in the pathway i just described, in Word's memory, but it was still not existent in my OneDrive's memory under my File Explorer.

@Sean_P_s3016183 If the files/folders are visible in the web view of OneDrive, and not locally on your computer, it is possible that you have selective sync. Go to your OneDrive folder and right-click to get Settings. In the dialog that comes up, under the Account tab, click the Choose folders button. In the next window you will see if all or only some of your folders are being synced.

@Mike Williams Hi Mike, thanks for your reply. I did what you had suggested, opened my settings from my OneDrive folder, under the Account Tab, i clicked on the link to "choose folders" and i could see that all of the folders were already checked, so in theory they should have synchronized automatically but they did not. I thought i would try login to the web version of my OneDrive and see if i could synchronize from there and I have now began the sync process. It seems to take an awfully long time to synchronize by the way! It's been about 15 minutes so far and the one folder that i had added now appears in my local hard drive version of my OneDrive but in the "status column" next to the folder, it shows a cloud icon saying that the file will be "available when online". I'm never not online, so i'm confused as to why it's saying that. In addition to this, the older files that i had saved already locally and were previously synchronized with my onedrive, are showing an icon with a green, circle and and check/ tick inside of that circle. Does that mean that those files were originally saved from my device/ laptop and then synchronized later to my OneDrive? Also, does the cloud icon, which says that the status is "available when online" mean that because i've only ever saved the file from the web version of my One Drive, that there will never be a literal locally saved version of this on my hard drive?

It sounds like there is some problem with the way that your OneDrive client is running on your computer. You should run through the troubleshooting steps set out here: -us/office/fix-onedrive-sync-problems-0899b115-05f7-45ec-95b2-e4cc8c... which may involve shutting it down and re-setting it.

@Sean_P_s3016183 I have two PCs. One had a similar problem with "onedrive files are only displayed in the recent folder, not in the root onedrive folder" and the other PC was ok. The bad PC has too many processes running and browser tabs open. By Restarting the windows 10, it fixed the problem. Now I can see them in both OneDrive My files and the recent folder. They are sync'ed with the local OneDrive Documents folder.

I've also had this problem with the onedrive app on my phone because it doesnt show my current files and folders from 2023 or 2022 that I have on my computer in my Onedrive it just shows files and folders that I had created and saved in 2021 this is really annoying so if there's any way to fix this please tell me cause this is frustrating.

On the This is your OneDrive folder screen, select Next to accept the default folder location for your OneDrive files. If you want to change the folder location, select Change location - this is the best time to make this change.

Any time you want to change the folders you sync on your computer, right-click that cloud icon in the taskbar notification area, and select Settings > Account > Choose folders. Find other information about your account and change other OneDrive settings from here.

Yes Onedrive appears to have messed everything up even after I turned it off now I have a desktop under users and a desktop under onedrive. The location my PC is automatically looking now is at the onedrive folder.

You are able to open OneDrive via the browser and then access your OneDrive files on the website, or share files with people by a shared link. The files and folders you store in OneDrive are private until you decide to share them and you can see who a OneDrive file is shared with or stop sharing at any time.

When you install the OneDrive app for Mac, a copy of your OneDrive is downloaded to your Mac and put in the OneDrive folder. This folder is kept in sync with OneDrive. If you add, change, or delete a file or folder on the OneDrive website, the file or folder is added, changed, or deleted in your OneDrive folder and vice versa.

Note that in a similar way, I would like to create a link that causes onedrive to open and display a chosen folder. This seems to work ok when I use a URL this one that only I have permissions to view:

OneDrive has a "Copy link" function in a few places that you would think does what it states. However, as soon as you select "Copy link", a share is created with the defaults of your OneDrive (which could be your organisation's). In my case, the default is share with editing permissions. This is probably the last thing you would expect when you are requesting to "Copy link". This is really quite dangerous, since the now shared link could be used by anybody if it subsequently forwarded to others.

The OneDrive Sync client's default storage location for synced files is on C drive in C:\Users\\OneDrive - University of Windsor folder. When your computer's C drive is running out of space, you can relocate the default OneDrive folder to another partition or another hard drive with more available space.

If you have one of these in your OneDrive folder, that file will not sync.

If the icon does not appear, you will need to trigger it manually from the OneDrive exe file. To do this, open File Explorer and click View > Hidden items, then drill down to the following location: C:\Users\[YourUsername]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\OneDrive\. In that folder, double-click the OneDrive.exe file, and the icon will appear in the System Tray.

A window for Your OneDrive folder points to the default location for your local OneDrive folder. Click Change location to pick another destination or click Next. The folder will then be created if it does not already exist. If it does exist, click the Use this folder button.

Review the subsequent screens to complete the initial setup. At the end, you may be prompted to open your OneDrive folder, which you can do if you wish. The next steps will vary somewhat based on whether or not you are running the 22H2 update to Windows 11.
