When my children were infants, I found myself looking forward to the days when they could be more self-sufficient. But then I realized I was wasting my time wishing my life away. I had to stop and focus on appreciating those ordinary moments. Great post!
This was one of the reasons I started blogging: to find adventures in the every day or as you put it to find the magic in every day. i think it is so incredibly important in leading a fulfilled and happy life because circumstances can be equally boring or really hard and yet there is magic/adventure to be found. if you train yourself to look for it, you are all the better for it.
To answer your question: yes, I actually do find magic in the ordinary days. Like just tonight while preparing dinner for my family, I found delight in the fact that I had a family to cook for again. With extra people living with us for a short period of time, and knowing how happy they will be to not have to cook a meal made it magical for me to be able to serve them. Everyday can be magical if we stop long enough and look for it.
Love this because it is oh so true. There is apart of me that loves the unknown and the excitement of something new but I find myself truly embracing the ordinary everyday moments. Things like a lunch date or a phone call catching up with a friend. We often overlook the ordinary and forget how amazing it is.

De Tweede Wereldoorlog is uitgebroken en de wereld staat in brand. In het vredige Colorado woont de serieuze domineesdochter Livy Dale. Ze wil graag historica worden, maar ziet haar plannen gedwarsboomd als ze ongewenst zwanger wordt van een soldaat. Hij laat haar in de steek en haar puriteinse vader dwingt haar te trouwen met Ray Singleton, een eenzame boer die zijn broer verloor bij de aanval op Pearl Harbor. Hij is dodelijk verlegen, heeft geen enkele ervaring met vrouwen, maar wil heel graag een gezin stichten.

van Japanse internering en duitse krijgsgevangenen en hoe daar in VS mee om werd gesprongen of er uit had moeten worden gelaten of juist duidelijker in beeld mocht worden gebracht
Schitterende film. Goed geacteerd en echt een geweldige soundtrack. Deze film brenkt de verschillen tussen stad en platteland, discriminatie tegen Japanners (iets wat ik nooit geweten heb), de oorlog, sex voor het huwelijk en een schitterend liefdes verhaal over een man die niks van vrouwen weet en een al zwangere vrouw die omdat ze zwanger is met een wildvreemde moet trouwen, erg goed in beeld.
4,5* die tegen de 5* aan zit.
Van The Magic of Ordinary Days had ik me toch iets meer voorgesteld, mede dankzij de opvallend hoge score hier. Maar de filmt laat veel ordinary days zien en maar bar weinig magic. Komt wellicht doordat de hoofdrolspelers in deze, Russell en Ulrich, nou ook niet bepaald persoonlijkheden zijn die vlammen op het doek. Goed gecast als het truttige vrouwtje en de stugge boer zijn ze dan weer wel, maar echt warm lopen voor deze personages lukt maar moeilijk. Dat doen ze ook niet voor elkaar, zo blijkt in het verhaal. Grootste deel van de tijd kijk je dan ook naar twee mensen die wat moeizaam om elkaar heen draaien, wat onbeholpen dialogen spuien en verder hun weinig interessante dingetjes doen. De knulligheid van het eenvoudige leven op een boerderij ergens in the middle of nowhere wordt daarmee wel aardig weergegeven, maar echt bijzonder boeien kon het me niet. Naar het einde toe wordt dan ook opeens de oorlog er nog weer even aan de haren bijgesleept, wat nogal merkwaardig overkomt.
Het is een tv-film die volgens IMDb 120 minuten duurt. Zelf heb ik hem via ruil op dvd en duurt hij 90 minuten. Er is dus een stuk afgehaald lijkt me, maar dat is niet erg, ik vind de lengte zo precies goed. Misschien iets voor de EO om hem uit te zenden. Begint met een stukje Rail Away om dan over te gaan in een drama in de trant van Kleine huis op de prairie. Bijna alle mensen zijn even lief en aardig tegen elkaar in de film. Mooie beelden die afgewisseld worden door computeranimaties, wat weer wat minder is.
Ik ben al lang blij dat het geen zwaar drama is maar gewoon een luchtig drama met een beetje romantiek. De chemie tussen Keri Russell als Levy en Skeet Ulrich als Ray is vaak ver te zoeken. Het is er wel maar je ziet het niet. Dit komt vooral door het verhaal. Al brengen ze beide wel goed en Mare Winningham als Martha straalt ook zo mooi. De Japanse kwestie zit er aardig tussendoor gevlochten. Alleen met die Duitser vind ik wel wat teveel van het goede. Toch is het is op sommige momenten maar een lief en hartverwarmend filmpje, vooral naar het einde toe. 3.0
