நேற்று டத்தோ ஶ்ரீ சுப்பிரமணியம் தமிழ்க்கல்வியின் முக்கியத்துவம்பற்றி பேசுகையில் என்னருகில் அமர்ந்திருந்த திரு. நாதன், சுப்பிரமணியம் டத்தோ ஶ்ரீ கேவியஸைத் தாக்குவதாகக் கூறினார். நாதனின் உட்கருத்து அப்போது எனக்கு விளங்கவில்லை. வீடு திரும்பிய பின்னர்தான் புரிந்தது. இந்திய சமூகம் பின்தங்கி இருப்பதற்குத் தமிழ்ப்பள்ளிகள்தான் காரணம் என்று மிகத் திட்டவட்டமாக கேவியஸ் ஒரு பேட்டியில் கூறியிருக்கிறார். சுட்டி: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=631971553517881

நம் சமூக மேம்பாட்டிற்குத் தமிழ்ப்பள்ளிகள் எவ்விதத்திலும் தடையாக இல்லையென நம்மால் துள்ளியமாகக் கூறவியலாது. இருப்பினும், அவை பெரிதும் உதவுகின்றன என்று நாம் உணர்வுபூர்வமாகவும் அறிவுபூர்வமாகவும் நம்புகிறோம். கேவியஸின் கருத்தோ தவறுகள் மலிந்ததாக இருக்கிறது.

"DS Kayveas, Tamil Schools have come a long way in the last 30 years. When I attended a Tamil School, the student pass rate was 11%. Today, it is 65%. But this is not enough. We want Tamil Schools that aren't merely comparable to National and Chinese Schools. We want them to be comparable to schools in Singapore and Finland and Switzerland. On a personal level, I want my two sons to receive a comparable education here at a Malaysian Tamil School, as that received by their cousins in Denmark and the US. I don't think it is such a tall order. We know the many issues that plague our school system, in particular the Tamil School system. Most of these issues are solvable with limited resource usage. From manning of the MoE, to teacher recruitment, training and deployment, to curriculum development and implementation there are kinks that need to be ironed out. These are discussed at length in the proposal that the PM received from Prof. N.S. Rajendran on 15 Feb. Please have a look at them. I am quite certain you could lend your clout to help ensure the proposed reforms are adopted by the MoE."
