Colombo has schemed a sinister move to demographically annex Thennai-maravadi, a strategic ancient Tamil village in Kuchchave’li division on the border of Northern and Eastern Provinces with the Sinhala dominated Padavi Sripura division of Trincomalee district, civil sources in Trincomalee told TamilNet. SL intelligence squad behind attack on protestors in Trincomalee on HR Day

The masked men, who on Tuesday attacked a peaceful demonstration, which was staged by the relatives of missing persons in Trincomalee, belong to a squad operated by the intelligence wing of the occupying SL military, the organisers of the protest said on Wednesday. The members of the squad arrived through the Sinhala market, parked their motorbikes and launched the attack after covering their faces with clothes. More than one hundred peaceful demonstrators, most of them women, carrying the photos of their missing kith and kin, were brutally attacked by the men, who also destroyed the photos and placards on Human Rights Day in the city of Trincomalee while SL Policemen were watching the unfolding violent episode.

“THE GOVERNOR SHALL BE APPOINTED BY THE PRESIDENT BY WARRANT UNDER HIS HAND, AND SHALL HOLD OFFICE IN ACCORDANCE WITH ARTICLE 4 (b ) DURING THE PLEASURE OF THE PRESIDENT”
அதாவது ஆளுநர் ஐனாதிபதியால் நியமிக்கப்படுவதுடன் ஐனாதிபதியின் விருப்பத்தை திருத்திப்படுத்தும் வரையில் பதவியில் இருப்பார். திரு.சம்பந்தன் அவர்கள் ஆளுநராக நியமிக்கப்பட்டாலும் ஐனாதிபதியின் விருப்பத்திற்கு மாறாக செயற்படமுடியாது என்பது அதன் பொருள். ஜனதிபதியின் விருப்பம் என்பது பிரித்தானியர் இலங்கையைவிட்டு அகன்ற நாள் முதல் விஸ்வரூபம் எடுத்து வரும் சிங்கள பௌத்த பேரினவாத மனோநிலையைப் பிரதிபலிப்பதாகவே அமையும் என்பதில் மாற்றுக்கருத்திற்கு இடமில்லை. நல்லவேளையாக நமது கற்றறிந்த சட்டவாதிகள் ஐனாதிபதியாக சம்பந்தரை நியமிக்கவேண்டும் என்று கமரூனிடம் கோரிக்கை விடாதவரையில் தமிழ் மக்களின் மானம் காக்கப்பட்டிருக்கின்றது. இங்கு உருவாக்கப்பட வேண்டியது சிங்கள பௌத்த பேரினவாத மனோ நிலையால் தமிழர்கள் தேசம் பாதிக்கப்படாதவாறான ஓர் அரசியற் கட்டமைப்பு ஆகும். இங்கு வேதனைக்குரிய வியடம் என்ன வென்றால் வடகிழக்கை தாயகமாகக்கொண்ட தமிழ் மக்களின் அரசியலை வடமா காணத்திற்குள் எம் தலைவர்கள் மட்டுப்படுத்தியிருக்கிறார்கள் என்பதே. இது வடக்கு கிழக்கு மாகாணங்களின் பிரிப்பை கூட்டமைப்பினர் ஏற்றுக்கொண்டு விட்டதை காட்டுகின்றது.

ஆகக் குறைந்தது நூலக வாயிலில் நின்று காணாமல் போன தமது உறவுகளுக்காக அழுகுரல் எழுப்பிய, தம்மை தேர்ந்தெடுத்த மக்களையாவது சந்தியுங்கள் என்று கமரூனுக்கு அன்புக்கட்டளையிடக்கூட கல்நெஞ்சத் தலைவர்கள் மறுத்துவிட்டனர்.

தமிழர்களின் பணத்தில் தமிழினத் துரோகிகளின் வயிறு வளர்க்கும் இவர்கள் போன்றவர்கள் மற்றும் இவர்கள் கூட்டாளிகள் இன்று சிறீலங்காவின் பொருளாதாரத்தைத் தாங்கிநிற்கும் திட்டத்திலேயே ஈடுபடுகின்றார்கள். ‘சிறீலங்கா என்றுமே சர்வதேச விசாரணைகளிற்கு உட்படமுடியாது. சிறீலங்கா இறையாண்மை உள்ள நாடு. கேள்விகேட்பதற்கு யாருக்கும் உரிமை இல்லை’ எனத் தமிழர்களைக் கொல்வது சிறீலங்காவின் அடிப்படை உரிமை என்பது போல் பேசும் இனவெறியாளனான முன்னாள் கிறிக்கெற் வீரனும் இந்நாள் நாடாளுமன்ற உறுப்பினனுமான சனத் ஜெயசூரியாவுடன் கைகோர்த்தபடி சிறீலங்கா அதிரடிப்படையின் பாதுகாப்பில் தனது ஊர் செல்லும் லைக்கா குழுமத்தின் உரிமையாளர் தமிழர்கள் முதுகில் ஓங்கிப் பின்பக்கமாகக் குத்தி உள்ளார்.
தமிழ் மக்களின் மீது சிங்கள இனவாத அரசின் இனப்படுகொலைத் தாண்டவம் கோரமாக ஆடியபோதும் இராஜபக்ச அரசோடு அவர்களின் தொலைத்தொடர்பு நிறுவனத்திற்கான பேரம் பேசலில் இந்நிறுவனம் இருந்துள்ளது. இன்றும் சிறீலங்கா இனவெறி அரசு தமிழினம் மீது மேற்கொண்ட இனப்டுகொலையை மறைத்து உலகிற்கு சமாதானப் புறாவாகக் காட்சி கொடுப்பதற்கும் தங்க அனுசரணையாளர்களாக இவர்களே இருக்கின்றார்கள்.
எமது இனம் இனப்படுகொலையில் சிக்கி உயிர்களும் உடமைகளும் இழந்து, எஞ்சியவர்கள் உண்ண உணவின்றித் தவித்துக் கொண்டும், இன்றும் எமது அடுத்த தலைமுறையின் கல்வியும் வாழ்வும் எமது மண்ணில் கேள்விக்குறியாகவும் உள்ள நிலையிலும் இவர்கள் போன்றோரும் இவர்கள் கூட்டாளிகளும் ஊரில் ஏதோ பாடசாலைக்கு நன்கொடை கொடுத்தோம் என்று படம் போட்டுக் கொண்டு, தங்களின் ஊழியர்களைத் தொலைக்காட்சிகளில் மக்களை ஏமாற்ற விட்டுவிட்டுச் சிங்களவனிற்குச் சேவை செய்து வருவதை மக்கள் என்றுமே மன்னிக்க மாட்டார்கள்.
தமிழ்த் தேசிய ஊடகங்கள் மீதான அடாவடித்தனமான தாக்குதலும் சிங்கள இனவெறி கக்கும் முரளிதரன் போன்ற துரோகிகளுடனும் சனத் ஜெயசூரியா போன்றோருடனும் பணப்பரிமாற்றம் செய்யும் இவர்கள் சரிந்து நிற்கும் சிறீலங்காவின் பொருளாதாரத்தை நிமிர்த்தித் தமது கூட்டாளிகளுடன் இணைந்து முதலீடுகளைச் செய்கின்றார்கள். இந்த முதலீடுகள் தமிழர்களின் பயமற்ற முதலீடுகளாக வெளிநாட்டு முதலீட்டாளர்களிற்குக் காட்டப்படும். அதுவே வெளிநாட்டவர்கள் முதலீடுகளைச் சிங்களம் அடையத் துண்டிலாக அமையும். இவர்கள் சிறீலங்காவிற்குக் கொடுக்கும் முண்டுகள் நாளை சர்வதேசத்தின் முன்னால் சிறீலங்கா பொருளாதார பலத்துடன் திமிராக நின்று தமிழர்கள் மீது இன்னமும் துணிவாகக் குண்டுகள் போடவே வழி வகுக்கின்றது.
மக்களிற்கு உண்மைகளை எடுத்துரைக்கும் ஊடகங்களும் ஊடகவியலாளர்களும் எப்படி சிறீலங்கா அரசால் அடித்து ஓடுக்கப்பட்டு உண்மைகளின் குரல்வளை நசிக்கப்டுவது போலவே இங்கும் மக்களிற்கு உண்மைகள் சொல்ல முனையும் தமிழ்த்தேசிய ஊடகங்களும் இணையங்களும் அச்சுறுத்துலக்கு உள்ளாக்கப்டுகின்றன. சிங்களத்தின் கோரப் பற்களிற்குத் துணையாக இப்படியான நரிகளின் நகங்களும் ஊடகசுதந்திரம் மீது கீறுகின்றன.

As South Africa prepares for the funeral of iconic anti-apartheid leader Nelson Mandela, who passed away at the age of 95 on Thursday, leaders of the world have paid their tributes to the man who was incarcerated as a political prisoner under the apartheid regime for 27 years. Powerful countries in the West, including the USA and UK, which had once denounced Mandela as a ‘terrorist’, are now in the forefront paying homage. However, these establishments still continue to support countries that practice illegal detention and brutal treatment of prisoners-of-war (PoW). Noting this hypocrisy, a British-Kurdish activist, drawing a comparison between Mandela and PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan who has been kept in solitary confinement in a Turkish prison for 13 years, questions how one political leader is considered a “freedom fighter” and the other a “terrorist”.

Victims coerced to produce false affidavits on controversial birth control in Vanni

Colombo has instructed Tamil health officials in Ki’linochchi district to obtain ‘affidavits’ from women who were subjected to a controversial coercive population control in three coastal villages of the district. The women are being approached to sign a document stating that they received subdermal implants on their own request for contraceptive protection. The latest move has come as the women, who were coerced to receive a long-term hormonal birth control implant inserted under the skin of their upper arm, have been complaining of side effects such as blood pressure, weight gain, irregular periods as well as traumatic stress after 2 months of the birth control experiment by the SL State. On 30 November, a 26-year-old woman, who was one of more than 50 victims subjected to contraceptive control, died at Jaffna hospital after a mysterious infection.
PPT names panel of judges to hear genocide case against Sri Lanka

The Permanent Peoples Tribunal (PPT) in Rome has announced the names of 11 judges, who would be hearing the long-awaited case on the accusation of genocide against Eezham Tamils to be heard by an independent panel. “Like in the first session, a respected panel of judges consisting of experts in Genocide studies, former UN-officials, experts in international law and renowned peace and human rights activists will hear the evidence that is presented and make a determination,” a press statement signed by Mr Gianni Tognoni, the secretary general of the PPT, stated. The first session held in January 2010, known as the Dublin Tribunal, was the first independent international undertaking that recognized the need to look into the case of genocide in the island of Sri Lanka. The second session is to take place between December 07 -10, 2013 in Bremen, Germany.
Since then, the PPT has approved the submission of the Germany-based International Human Rights Association Bremen (IMRV) and the Irish Forum for Peace in Sri Lanka (IFPSL) that substantial new evidence necessitate a second round of investigations to determine whether Genocide has been and is being committed against the Tamil people in Sri Lanka. The plaintiff organisations have also accused India, UK and the USA for orchestrating the genocide on Eezham Tamils.
In the first session held in 2010, the Dublin tribunal found Sri Lankan government "guilty of War-Crimes" and "guilty of Crimes Against Humanity." Eye witnesses included several escapees from the final week of the genocidal onslaught on the "No Fire Zone" in Vanni where thousands of Tamil civilians were slaughtered by the SL military.

இதுவரை காலமும் தமிழீழ மக்கள் மீதான சிங்களத்தின் இன அழிப்பு நடவடிக்கைகளுக்கு நிபந்தனையற்ற ஆதரவு வழங்கிய காங்கிரஸ் கட்சி, சிறிலங்கா மீதான போர்க் குற்றச்சாட்டை நிராகரித்தே வந்துள்ளது. ஐ.நா.வின் மனித உரிமைகள் மன்றத்தில் அமெரிக்கா முதன்முறையாகக் கொண்டுவந்த இலங்கை மீதான குற்றப் பிரேரணையை தோற்கடிப்பதற்கான அத்தனை முயற்சிகளையும் மேற்கொண்டது. அது இயலாத நிலையில், அதை நீர்த்துப் போகச் செய்து அதனை ஆதரித்தது.இது, இந்திய காங்கிரஸ் ஆட்சியாளர்களது மன மாற்றத்திற்கான ஒப்புதல் வாக்குமூலம் அல்ல. தமிழகத்தில் தங்களது இருப்பை உறுதிப்படுத்திக்கொள்வதற்கான வாக்கு மூல அரசியல் பித்தலாட்டம் என்பதை தமிழகம் உணர்ந்தே வைத்துள்ளது. கடந்த நான்கு வருடங்களாக இந்திய ஆட்சியாளர்கள் தெரிந்து வைத்திருக்காத ரகசியத்தை சிதம்பரம் கண்டெடுத்து வெளிப்படுத்தவில்லை.இந்திய ஆட்சியாளர்களுக்குத் தெரியாமல் சிங்கள ஆட்சியாளர்கள் எதுவுமே செய்திருக்கவில்லை. சிங்கள ஆட்சியாளர்கள் நடாத்திய இனப் படுகொலைக்கான அத்தனை வளங்களையும் இந்தியாவே வழங்கியது. அந்த யுத்தத்தை நிறுத்துவதற்கு மேற்குலகம் மேற்கொண்ட முயற்சிகள் அத்தனையும் இந்தியாவால் தோற்கடிக்கப்பட்டது. ஈழத் தமிழர்கள் அநாதரவாக்கப்பட்டு, சிங்களப் படைகளால் கொன்று குவிக்கப்பட்ட பின்னர், கோத்தபாய ராஜபக்ஷே 'இந்தியாவின் போரை நாங்கள் நடாத்தி முடித்தோம்' என்று வீராப்பாகச் சொன்னதை இந்திய ஆட்சியாளர்கள் இதுவரை மறுக்கவில்லை.இந்த வருட மே மாதத்தில் அமெரிக்கா முன்மொழிந்த சிறிலங்கா மீதான குற்றப் பிரேணைக்கு ஆதரவாக வாக்களிக்க வேண்டிய நிர்ப்பந்தத்தை தமிழகம் உருவாக்கியிருந்தது. அமெரிக்காவின் சர்வதேச விசாரணை என்ற கோரிக்கையில் மாற்றம் செய்து, சிறிலங்கா மேற்கொள்ளவுள்ள உள்ளக விசாரணையில், அது விரும்பும் பட்சத்தில் ஐ.நா. தன் தொழில் நுட்பங்களை வழங்கலாம் என்ற சரத்தை உட்புகுத்தி, நீதிக்காகப் பாடுபடும் உலக நாடுகளையும், நீதிக்காகப் போராடிய தமிழகத்தையும் ஏமாற்றி, அமெரிக்காவின் பிரேரணையை ஆதரித்து, சிறிலங்காவைத் தப்ப வைத்தது. சிறிலங்காவில் பொதுநலவாய மாநாட்டை நடாத்த அனுமதிக்கக் கூடாது. சிறிலங்காவை பொதுநலவாய அமைப்பிலிருந்தே நீக்க வேண்டும் என்ற தமிழகத்தின் குரல்களை இந்திய மத்திய காங்கிரஸ் ஆட்சியாளர்கள் கணக்கில் எடுத்துக் கொள்ளவே இல்லை. இறுதியாக, இந்தியா சார்பாக யாரும் பொதுநலவாய மாநாட்டில் கலந்து கொள்ளக் கூடாது என்ற தமிழகத்தின் ஒட்டுமொத்தக் குரல்களும், தமிழக சட்ட மன்றத்தில் இரு தடவைகள் நிறைவேற்றப்பட்ட தீர்மானங்களும் இந்திய காங்கிரஸ் ஆட்சியாளர்களை எதுவும் செய்துவிடவில்லை. பிரதமர் மன்மோகன்சிங் அந்த மாநாட்டில் கலந்து கொள்ள முடியாமைக்கு வருத்தம் தெரிவித்து, மன்னிப்புக் கோரும் தொனியில் மகிந்த ராஜபக்சேக்கு கடிதம் அனுப்பி வைக்க, இந்திய காங்கிரஸ் ஆட்சியாளர்கள் சார்பாக இந்திய வெளிவிவகார அமைச்சர் குர்சித் தன் பரிவாரங்கள் சகிதம் அந்த மாநாட்டுக்குச் சென்று சிங்கள ஆட்சியாளர்களைக் குளிர்வித்தார்.இந்த அதிர்ச்சியிலிருந்து மீள்வதற்கு முன்னதாக, பொதுநலவாய மாநாட்டில் கலந்துகொண்ட பிரித்தானிய பிரதமர் டேவிட் கேமரூன் இன்னொரு குண்டை வெடிக்க வைத்தார். யாழ்ப்பாணம் சென்று, தமிழ் மக்களது அவலங்களை நேரில் பார்வையிட்டுத் திரும்பிய பிரித்தானிய பிரதமர், பொதுநலவாய மாநாட்டில் வைத்தே சிறிலங்கா ஆட்சியாளர்களுடைய மனித உரிமை மீறல்களையும், போர்க் குற்றங்களையும் விமர்சித்ததுடன், அது குறித்த நீதியான முடிவை எட்டுவதற்கு சிறிலங்கா ஆட்சியாளர்களுக்கு நான்கு மாத அவகாசத்தை மட்டுமே வழங்குவதாக அறிவித்தார். எதிர்வரும், மார்ச் மாதத்திற்குள் போர்க் குற்றங்கள் குறித்தும், தமிழ் மக்களுக்கான அரசியல் தீர்வு குறித்தும் சரியான முடிவுகளை எட்டத் தவறினால், அதனை விசாரிக்க அனைத்துலக பொறிமுறை ஒன்றை உருவாக்க பிரித்தானியா பாடுபடும் என்ற எச்சரிக்கையையும் விடுத்தார்.

'இந்தியாவின் தமிழர்களை, டேவிற் கேமரூன் களவாடிவிட்டார்' என்று மேற்குலகின் பத்திரிகை ஒன்று தலையங்கம் எழுதியது. இந்தியாவைத் தாண்டி, எதையும் சிந்திக்கத் தெரியாத தமிழர்களுக்கும் டேவிற் கேமரூன் இன்னொரு திசையைக் காட்டியுள்ளார். இந்தியாவின் நலன்களுக்காகப் பலி கொள்ளப்பட்ட தமிழர்களும் புதிய நம்பிக்கையுடன் நிமிர்ந்தார்கள்.
இந்த நிலையில்தான், இந்திய காங்கிரஸ் கட்சி இன்னொரு வியுகத்தை வகுக்க ஆரம்பித்துள்ளது. அதற்காக, ப. சிதம்பரம் களம் இறக்கப்பட்டுள்ளார். கடந்த நான்கு ஆண்டுகளாக, சிறிலங்காவின் போர்க் குற்றங்கள் குறித்தே எங்கும் பிரஸ்தாபிக்காத காங்கிரஸ் கட்சி சார்பாக மேடையேறிய ப. சிதம்பரம், இலங்கையில் நடைபெற்றது இனப் படுகொலை என்று தெரிவித்துள்ளார். The British Prime Minister, David Cameron, after returning from Colombo Commonwealth meeting, said in an article that appeared in the Arab News, that there should be a transparent, credible investigation into alleged war crimes in Sri Lanka. But he reneged on the time frame pronounced for the completion of the inquiry. In Colombo, Cameron said, "Let me be very clear, if that investigation is not completed by March then I will use our position on the UN human rights council to work with the UN Human Rights commission and call for a full, credible and independent international inquiry." However, in the Arab News, likely issued to blunt expectations of March completion of investigations, Cameron said, "if those investigations were not begun properly by next March, we would call for an international inquiry through the United Nations."

Leading rights groups, Human Rights Watch, the Human Rights Law Centre, Amnesty International Australia, Australian Lawyers for Human Rights, and the Castan Centre for Human Rights, called for a retraction of remarks on torture in Sri Lanka made by Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott November 15, 2013. Abbot had said that while his government "deplores the use of torture we accept that sometimes in difficult circumstances difficult things happen."
Elaine Pearson, Australia director of Amnesty responded: “Torture is always illegal and immoral, and there is no exception for ‘difficult circumstances.’” Abbott’s remarks give cover to torturers in Sri Lanka and elsewhere, and he should retract them immediately.”

A 35-year-old Tamil activist, who was actively involved in mobilising support to the victory of Tamil National Alliance (TNA) in the Provincial Council elections, has been reported missing since Friday in Ki'linochchi. Meanwhile, in Jaffna, an alert public apprehended two culprits, allegedly operated by the occupying Sri Lankan military, when the squad attempted to abduct a 21-year-old Tamil girl in broad daylight on Hospital Road in Jaffna on Monday. When the public caught the two Sinhala-speaking operatives, tens of occupying Sri Lankan soldiers and policemen protected the squad and assaulted the civilians, who had caught the abductors. The fate of another woman recently abducted by a similar squad at Punnaalaik-kadduvan in Jaffna is not known.

To convince the heads of governments not to hesitate attending CHOGM, a message was also passed to the effect that the NPC Chief Minister would be invited to the meet. Had the Indian Prime Minister attended the CHOGM, coupled with this propaganda, the Tamil question would have been endorsed as an internal affair of Sri Lanka. But, this didn't happen, thanks to the non-attendance by the Indian PM, said Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam, the leader of the Tamil National Peoples Front (TNPF) in Jaffna on Saturday.
Applauding the principled positions adopted by the Prime Minister of Canada and the Prime Minister of Mauritius, Mr Gajendrakumar spoke about the significance of the role played by the Tamils of Tamil Nadu and Eezham Tamils and the Tamil diaspora. Former Regional Director of Health Services (RDHS) for Mullaiththeevu, Dr. Thurairajah Varatharajah, currently in exile in the U.S, says in video documentary aired in India's NewsX TV station that Colombo, after keeping him and four other doctors in prison at the end of the war, forced the doctors to lie to foreign media and to the Organizations accusing Sri Lanka of allegations of committing war-crimes to neutralize the allegations. Dr Varatharajah said that living under such conditions had become unbearable that he had to seek ways to get out of Sri Lanka with his family. The doctors were accused by Colombo of giving false accounts of civilian deaths during the war, and were forced to recant the figures in a well publicized news conference. Dr Varatharajah, said he is talking voluntarily to set the record straight now that he does not have to fear for his life.

Lee Rhiannon, a Greens Party Senator from New South Wales, during a debate in the Australian parliament following her return from Sri Lanka on the eve of the Commonwealth meeting [CHOGM], said that the situation in the NorthEast under Mahinda Rajapakse regime is dire, that the Sri Lanka army's involvement in civilian life is pervasive and Australia is turning a blind eye to credible allegations of continuing torture, rape and crimes against humanity reported by respected Rights groups and by several video documentaries from Channel-4. Rhiannon pointed out the increasingly voiced broad consensus from several countries for an international investigations into the war-crimes by the Rajapakse regime, and praised the CHOGM boycott of several Prime Ministers in spotlighting the Sri Lanka's continuing dismal rights record and lack of accountabililty for war-crimes. Rhiannon described the boycott of Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Mauritius Prime Minister, Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam, and also Trinidad and Tobago's Prime Minister, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, were brave acts that have exposed the inevitability of Sri Lanka having to account for the committed crimes during the war.

Uprooted Tamils in Trincomalee demand justice for genocide

On Friday, a day before the protest, the occupying Sri Lankan military intelligence operatives, went on a house-to-house and camp-to-camp round instructing the Tamils not to take part in any protest during the ‘Sri Lanka CHOGM’. Subsequently, the protest was held in the premises of Ki’liveddi camp. The SL police who came to the Ki’liveddi camp on Saturday confronted the protestors and said they should not carry any placards with slogans. However, the uprooted people were firm in staging their protest with the presence of Tamil politicians.

Demanding to witness their plight in person, hundreds of kith and kin of missing persons took to the venue in Jaffna on Friday when the visiting British Prime Minister David Camaron was scheduled to meet with Northern Provincial Council (NPC) Chief Minister CV Wigneswaran and R. Sampanthan of the TNA at Jaffna Public Library. British PM David Cameron was taken to the meeting without the possibility of even witnessing the mothers and the family members who were carrying the photographs of their loved ones.

Sri Lanka's Chairmanship makes mockery of Commonwealth values: NYT

The New York Times, in an editorial appearing in the Thursday edition, accused Sri Lanka of committing "serious human rights violations" and of failing "to provide accountability for wartime abuses." Under the Rajapaksa government, the paper said, journalists have been systematically threatened, harassed, killed or forced into exile in what amounts to a war on the press, adding, that Colombo did everything it could to sabotage a free and fair outcome [in the Northern elections], including publishing a fake edition of the local newspaper Uthayan. The editorial urged the leaders attending the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) to insist that Colombo show meaningful progress in addressing human rights abuses abiding by international standards and to restore constitutional protection for freedom of expression.
Murali steps in where angels fear to tread

Muthaiyaa Muralidharan, Sri Lanka's star cricketer, stepped into the Commonwealth political fray, as he commented on the conditions in the North that there is "1000% improvement in facilities," as the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) was in progress in Colombo. Muralidharan was responding to British Prime Minister David Cameron that Britain would call for an international independent inquiry through the U.N. if the Rajapakse regime fails to conduct an impartial inquiry before March into the war-crimes committed by its troops. Muralidharan, who was reported to have played cricket with Cameron said that the British Prime Minister had been "misled about the situation in the north of Sri Lanka," according to UK's Guardian. Muralidharan is routinely used by Colombo as a propaganda symbol of a "race-blind Sri Lanka."
Muralidharan had praises for the Sri Lanka Army, and commented that the Northern Tamils are getting too much of attention.

We May 17 Movement are organizing a press meet, screening of the documentary "No Fire Zone" (video evidences of Genocide) by Channel 4 and a Symposium on "Regimes of Genocide on South Asia" in New Delhi at the Press Club on Nov. 14, 2013 3. 00 pm to 8 pm. The details of the program are in the attachment.
The Symposium will present perspectives from different nationalities that have gone through Genocide under different regimes of the region. In particular, it will also focus on the complicity of UN top officials with the Sri Lankan government during the final months of the bloody civil war, which was exposed by its own internal review - widely known as the "Petrie Report".
We hope to initiate a fresh dialogue among civil rights activists and democratic intellectuals in South Asia through this initiative upon our milieu which increasingly is turning hostile to basic rights enshrined in the constitutions of South Asian states. It is high time to defend basic norms of democratic rule, civil and human rights and demand the States of our region to raise up to the standards of International Law and good governance.
We invite you to participate in this initiative and help us in evolving a robust dialogue in the future and ensure that democracy and good governance prevails for the welfare of the masses of the South Asian region.

Prime Minister of Mauritius to boycott Sri Lanka CHOGM

Navin Ramgoolam, the Prime Minister of Mauritius, the country slated to host the next CHOGM at the conclusion of Sri Lanka's two year tenure, has reportedly decided to boycott the CHOGM meet in Colombo. Prime Minister Ramgoolam said that he made the decision because "he is a man of principle,” and added that he had received information that the situation in the north of the island of Sri Lanka has not improved in the four years after the war ended, Le Défi Media Group, a news media based in Port Louis reported Tuesday.
However, Foreign Minister Arvin Boolell will be representing the Government of Mauritius in the summit, the report said.
Navinchandra Ramgoolam, Mauritian Prime MinisterThe prime minister made the announcement at the National Assembly Tuesday, November 12, while responding to the Private Notice Question (PNQ) by the Leader of the Opposition.
The latest news comes following a report in Sri Lanka's Daily News which said in its edition of Tuesday, November 5, that the Mauritian government had confirmed participation of Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam.
The Leader of the Opposition as well as the Mauritius Tamil Temples Federation had earlier asked Navin Ramgoolam to boycott the summit in Sri Lanka.

TYO-UK condemns Cameron for ‘engagement’ with genocidal Sri Lanka

Condemning British Prime Minister David Cameron for his decision to participate in CHOGM in Sri Lanka, TYO-UK, in a press statement released on Monday accused Mr. Cameron of engaging with a genocide-accused state and for “pushing for a solution to be chosen by the Sri Lankan government, one which the Tamil nation is threatened by.” The release further conveyed its dismay over the willingness of Britain and other countries to give approval to the Sri Lankan ‘reconciliation’ model, which in practice amounts to genocide of the Tamil nation. Speaking to TamilNet Shanyuga Ganesan, TYO activist and law student at the University of Leicester expressed her regret at Mr. Cameron’s decision. “For a Tamil youth whose vote now counts in this country, I can't seem to digest the decision made by the Prime Minister to attend the CHOGM. We just feel like we are not being heard,” she said.
