Mountain Lynx Transit is available for any rider requesting transportation within the city limits of Galax. Call to schedule a trip or simply board at any published stop. This service links outer areas within the city limits with the loop buses. The loops buses operate hourly along a deviated (flexible) route. Drivers follow the route, in general, but may deviate a few blocks for pick-ups or drop-offs. The route schedule and stops are available on the website.

The New Freedom routes are designed to assist those who need to get to places outside of our district for medical treatment or just shopping. These routes operate on a fixed schedule weekly, making one round trip to regional medical and shopping centers outside the district.

Emergency Transportation

District Three Public Transit vehicles are not equipped for advanced care en route to hospitals, and we will not provide emergency transportation to hospitals. If you require emergency transportation please call 911 for your local emergency services.

Parking and Transportation Services has partnered with the Central Florida Transit Authority to provide complimentary access to routes on-board Lynx shuttles. A valid UCF Student, Staff, and Faculty Identification card will be needed.

For the safety of passengers on board, shuttles will only stop at designated stops and there are no intermediate stops along the way. A valid UCF ID is required to access all UCF shuttles with the exception of the Pegasus Express intra campus shuttle. Students can also access shuttles with a photo of their UCF ID or picture of class schedule shown on their mobile devices (or have the ability to log into My UCF portal using their mobile devices).

A recorded message provides jurors with specific reporting information. Please call on the day before you are to report, even if this day is a Sunday or a holiday, to be informed by a recorded message whether your service will be required. Call 407-836-2048 after 5:00 pm. You may be placed on standby. Jurors are to report to the Orange County Courthouse at 7:30 am on their first day of service. If the telephone recording is not operational, report for jury duty as directed by your summons. If you do not have a touchtone phone, or need assistance, please call 407-836-2206 before 5:00 p.m. on the day before you are to report. We encourage you to complete the Juror Questionnaire online before you report in order to avoid long check-in lines.

Juror parking is provided at the Courthouse Garage on the corner of Orange and Amelia Avenues. Please pull a ticket upon entering the facility and bring it with you when you are reporting for jury duty. You will receive continued parking privileges for the remainder of your service. Do not back into the parking space nor occupy more than one parking space at a time as you will receive a parking ticket from the Orlando Police Department if you do so. Any vehicle entering the Courthouse Garage must meet the 6'8" height clearance. If your vehicle exceeds the height limit, please email jury services staff at ju...@ocnjcc.org for further instructions.

LYNX will provide free bus service for all jurors during their term of service. To receive the free transportation service, jurors simply present their Juror Summons to the driver. Please note that the date of the service listed on the Juror Summons must match the actual calendar date (i.e. the Juror Summons will only serve as a free bus pass on their first day of service). Jury staff will provide bus passes for jurors who are required to serve additional days. Visit the LYNX website for a complete list of routes and schedules.

If you have a scheduling conflict and/or extreme hardship, you can request a postponement from your assigned service date to a date more convenient with your schedule. Your first postponement request will be granted upon demand. Additional requests, however, will be granted only if you can prove undue hardship. There are very few statutory reasons for being excused from jury duty. If you feel that you should be exempt or excused from your service obligation, you can submit the request to the Jury Duty Judge. To expedite your request to be excused for medical reasons, please have your healthcare provider complete the Orange County Medical Excuse Form and forward it to Jury Services. All requests must be mailed, or submitted online no less than ten (10) days prior to the report date to:

CourtFunds debit cards are available for use after 5:00 pm the Friday after you receive it. The card can be used anywhere MasterCard is accepted. If the card is not used within 100 days of being issued, a weekly card maintenance fee of $2.50 will be applied.

If your card is stolen or lost, call the customer service number immediately to cancel your card. Court Funds will send you a replacement card with the remaining balance minus a replacement card fee of $10.

The fifth project, using traffic modeling applications to test the effectiveness of alternate routes in case a bridge was destroyed or disabled, was delayed because the iFlorida data warehouse did not archive sufficient data to support those activities. FDOT plans on completing that activity once a new data warehouse, under development at the time of this writing, is in place. The remainder of this section describes each of the four completed iFlorida security projects and the lessons learned in implementing them.

FDOT viewed the Bridge Security Monitoring project as a technical proof of concept that would indicate the feasibility and cost of deploying a system to monitor the location around a bridge in order to identify and respond to potential threats to the bridge. This part of the evaluation report describes FDOT's experience in designing, deploying, and using the Bridge Security System.

FDOT believed that, before deciding to deploy a Bridge Security Monitoring System, a DOT should perform a comprehensive review of the security risks across the whole DOT infrastructure to identify the highest priority risks that could be addressed most cost effectively. One approach for doing this is to use the Homeland Security Comprehensive Assessment Model (HLS-CAM), developed by the National Domestic Preparedness Coalition.1

Although the full HLS-CAM process was not necessary for this project-FDOT was committed to deploying a Bridge Security Monitoring System in order to gather information on the costs and effectiveness of such a system-FDOT elected to follow applicable parts of the HLS-CAM process. Following this process involved the following five steps:

The end result was a series of threat scenarios that identified specific vulnerabilities that could be addressed and mitigated. In general, the HLS-CAM process might identify a number of different mitigation approaches, such as limiting access to the bridge (e.g., by installing fencing), identifying and responding to a threat before damage occurs (e.g., by deploying a monitoring system), hardening the bridge against damage if an attack occurs (e.g., by reinforcing key structural elements), or reducing impacts if a bridge is damaged (e.g., by identifying and signing alternate routes). Each mitigation approach would be considered and the most cost-effective ones selected for deployment.

For the iFlorida Bridge Security Monitoring project, the mitigation strategy was selected ahead of time. In this case, the HLS-CAM process defined the details of potential threat scenarios that were used to help design the Bridge Security Systems by identifying locations at which surveillance was needed in order to detect a threat before damage could occur.

The iFlorida Bridge Security Monitoring System was a software system that automatically monitored video images and activated an alarm whenever it detected image characteristics indicating that suspicious activities might be occurring near the bridges. When an alarm was raised, the system would allow operators to review real-time and archived video footage to identify the source of the alarm and monitor response activities, if a response was required.

Based on the threat scenarios identified during the HLS-CAM vulnerability assessment, the first step in the design process was to identify the locations for the video surveillance cameras. The threat scenarios identified the most likely locations where explosives might be placed to damage the bridges. Cameras were positioned to monitor access to those locations. This analysis identified the need for 15 cameras at 1 bridge and 16 at the other, providing surveillance both on the surface of the bridge and underneath it.

The next step was to design the hardware needed to support the video surveillance equipment, the video archiving, the video monitoring software, and the operator interface to the surveillance video and alarms, as well as the network connecting this equipment together. The iFlorida Bridge Monitoring System design called for deployment of digital video recorders and video analysis processors in the field near the bridge and the use of the existing FDOT fiber network to transmit the video and alarm data to the Bridge Security Monitoring workstations.
