Butwhat kept me sticking around over the past 20+ years was something a little deeper: a fascination with how this story came to be and a passion to learn everything I could about the Sailor Moon universe.

As odd as it may sound, knowing about what went on behind the scenes adds a whole new dimension of enjoyment for me when watching the anime or reading through the manga, so I just love learning about things like this. I hope you find this as interesting to read as I did to research!

Is there a chart of any kind that shows how the manga and anime flowed alongside one other, like a timeline that would let us know where the manga was at compared to the anime showing on TV at the same time?

We know the manga was always falling behind and that is one of the reasons the plots are so different, but a chart kind of showing how this played out would be awesome to see.

8 frames per second means they swapped out the painted cels during normal motion shots 8 times a second. The animation is still photographed at 24fps though, because there is much more going on than cel swapping. Linear movement, both of the painted cels across a background, and also with camera work like pans and zooms, all are photographed for 24 unique frames per second. Visual effects like sparkly stuff and fog are also going at 24fps. Think of it like this: say a baseball is being animated as flying across the sky. The ball will move further across your TV every 1/24th of a second. But, the ball itself will change its appearance (to represent spin) every 1/8th of a second; that is, every third frame. It takes nearly no effort to scoot a drawing of a ball across the lens, but it takes some effort, along with celluloid and paint, to draw a new ball in a new angular position, even if they reuse the cels for several cycles.

This artwork is original. Each piece was used in its own production, and is an historically significant part of each animated film. The cels come with a copy of the original background from the scene where available, or the sequence, or the film.

The quality of Mighty Mouse as compared with other 1980s animated television series is considered by animation historian Jerry Beck to "foreshadow the higher quality [animation] boom coming in the next decade."[2] It was one of the first Saturday morning cartoons on CBS to be broadcast in stereo.

Original production cels are the actual cels used to create the animated film (or TV show) that they were created for. Each one has been hand drawn and painted by an artist and has been then photographed over a background by the animation camera to eventually take part in the entire creation of the film.

This is very different from what are called Limited Edition cels or Serigraph cels. Limited Edition cels are re-creations of a favorite image or scene which is then hand painted. Serigraph cels are silk-screened re-creations. Here at Bakshi Productions we offer to you the real, original production cels used in each of the films.

These production cels are preciously collected and becoming more and more valuable as we progress into the future of animation through computers. There are animation cels from the early days that are valued in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. These cels are rare and there is only one like it in the world! No wonder they collectible and only increase in value.

-Some people like to collect the more obscure characters who show up rarely in the film. Others like the main characters. It is obviously up to your preference for which characters you like looking at really!

My Moon is a short film which tells of the complex relationship between three celestial bodies; Earth, Moon and Sun. Sun grows life, creates color, and provides uplifting energy to life on Earth. It would be impossible for Earth to be herself without Sun. Moon has always been a symbol for emotional extremes such as love, madness, sadness, and magical fantasy. However, Moon does not fulfill as much practical purpose for Earth as Sun does. Hence, to Earth, Sun represents a physical and practical form of love. Moon represents the emotional and platonic form of love.

EUSONG: The animation in this film is a mix of traditional keyframing with asset animation that creates an efficient workflow. At the same time, every character had a slightly different pipeline to suit their different needs. The goal was always to simplify the use of software and get rid of the cumbersome processes in between in order to gain efficiency and hit the appropriate style.

Earth is full of emotions which are connected to all of the life inhabiting her surface day and night. For that reason, even though she is a sensitive character who has ups and downs, she has a responsibility to stay in balance.

Sun was completely animated in After Effects. At one point, Natan and I considered building him in 3D because his design is very simple and shape-based. We knew that his animation would be a lot more charming and cartoonier than either Moon or Earth. Even though he is the largest character in size, we wanted him to have lots of squash and stretch. He needed to feel light and floaty, yet not ghostly and still maintaining a weight in his presence.

There are many tools that animation artists have always relied on to create an illusion of life, from subtle character animation to hand drawn effects and detailed background design. While I wanted to keep as much of that purity as possible, I also wanted to explore what we could achieve through the use of modern tools to enhance the look, such as AfterEffects. When Stephane began working on the film, he brought an extra layer of finesse and refinement which added depth and believability to the world. We always wanted to make sure that anything we added would be very unique and help to enhance the style and story, not override them.

If you can live with a "sort of" animated background, the best solution is Ubuntu's "slideshow" feature, which is a bit buried in Settings and only editable via slighly non-GUI means. It allows you to change your wallpaper, also in short intervals, thus giving you an animated impression.

This feature is covered in these questions and discussed in these blogposts: Advanced Background Slideshows in Ubuntu and Animated desktop wallpaper on Ubuntu Linux, the latter comparing it with other options.

I found a great tool called xwinwrap, more specifically shantz-xwinwrap, that lets you draw the out-put of any program (video player, screensaver) to the desktop background. Install instructions and download at -xwinwrap.html.

on ubuntu 14.04 only this compile command worked:

gcc -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -Wmissing-prototypes -Wmissing-declarations -Wredundant-decls xwinwrap.c -lX11 -lXext -lXrender -o xwinwrap

basically I had to put the -l and -o options to the ending

Over the Moon is a 2020 animated musical fantasy film directed by Glen Keane and co-directed by John Kahrs (in their feature directorial debuts), from a screenplay by Audrey Wells, with additional screenplay material by Alice Wu and Jennifer Yee McDevitt. The film was produced by Pearl Studio and Netflix Animation, and animated by Sony Pictures Imageworks. It stars the voices of Cathy Ang, Phillipa Soo, Ken Jeong, John Cho, Ruthie Ann Miles, Margaret Cho, and Sandra Oh. The plot follows an adventurous girl named Fei Fei, who builds a rocket ship to meet a mythical goddess on the Moon.

Over the Moon was first shown at the Montclair Film Festival on October 17, 2020, followed by its Netflix and select theaters release on October 23. The film grossed $860,000 worldwide; it earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Animated Feature Film, and was nominated for Best Animated Feature at the 93rd Academy Awards. It is the final film that Wells worked on before her death, and it was dedicated to her memory.

A girl named Fei Fei is being told the legend of the Moon goddess Chang'e who took a potion for immortality, causing her to become a goddess and ascend to the Moon without her lover Houyi, and awaits for him there. In preparation for the annual Moon Festival, Fei Fei, a 7 year old, and her family make mooncakes for the village. However, Fei Fei's mother falls ill, and gives her daughter a white rabbit named Bungee. She passes away when Fei Fei is 11.

They are introduced to Chang'e and her backup dancers, the Lunettes. Chang'e tells Fei Fei that she was supposed to deliver a gift for Chang'e to bring Houyi back. Fei Fei takes a photo with Chang'e to prove she is real, but Chang'e takes the photo from Fei Fei and demands the gift. Fei Fei doesn't know what she is talking about, and a frustrated Chang'e announces a competition to find her gift before the last of the moondust falls. Fei Fei gets upset with Chin and leaves him, getting a ride with the Biker Chicks to the crash site. Chin sees some Lunettes with the photo and is captured by Chang'e who demands the location of the gift. Chang'e challenges Chin to a game of ping pong to learn the location of the gift, but Chin wins, further upsetting Chang'e. Chang'e cries in despair that she will never see Houyi again. While Chin is trapped in a chamber by Chang'e, Bungee follows the Jade Rabbit into his workplace. Meanwhile, Fei Fei and the Biker Chicks head to her rocket's crash site, where the former meets an exiled Lunarian named Gobi. She discovers her Chang'e doll, which she suspects to be the gift, but the Biker Chicks snatch the doll and leave Fei Fei and Gobi behind.
